I'm done with saying things I don't really mean. I'm done saying the PC thing. I'm done repeating the talking points society has drilled in us to say. I'm done telling people it will get better. How the hell would I know if it gets better or not? I can't see the future. I'm not going to tell people "Go ahead and kill yourself." but I'm not going to tell them not to kill themselves if that's what they really want to do. I'm sure this will end up rubbing many the wrong way, but I'm done caring about that. Why should everyone else be able to say what they mean & I can't? Just because you don't agree with me doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid than yours.

Humpty. I agree with you 100000000%. There are just certain cliques on this board, I have noticed and anyone that speaks out of the norm or does hold the same values or beliefs with them, are soon to be ridiculed and shamed in their posts! I gave my piece of mind on a certain post and got blasted by the holy rollers society!!

Thanks for sharing... I've learnt to muzzle my words mostly, but I learnt this in early childhood

Even if you disagree with me I will not ridicule you. This is supposed to be a place of support.

I have found this an interesting place in that there are so many others in the same place as I am. But as a whole, I have felt hesitant to share or reply here, as I work in the psychology field...and I have noticed that my kind doesn't seem to be liked a whole lot. That is, there hasn't been the best experience had by most coming across doctors and counselors. So I'd love to give support and advice, but I feel like it would just get dismissed.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just the only right ones are the ones that agree with me.... kidding
Just because I have had horrible experiences, to put it mildly, with mental health professionals does not mean I hold it against mental health professionals in here. When you respond you can give your personal opinion without having to state that you've worked in the
psychology field.

I wouldn't dismiss your replies or advice because of the field in which you work I absolutely believe there are good doctors and counsellors out there, I have no reason at all to assume you're not one of them. I'm not a fan of assumptions

Rofl at first statement... Yeah I've met plenty who did not perceive the humour in that statement

True. But I've had times where the moment the advice sounds the slightest bit...medicine-y (that's a word, now, yeah?), people run in the opposite direction. Or trying to explain what's going on in the noggin, and I'll get a "le gasp! No! That is never what happens. Take your science elsewhere you heathen!"
Well, okay, maybe not like that, but pretty close.

My DBT group leader taught our group with information on HOW the brain works. That is actually what made me accept DBT theory was understanding how the brain makes the changes work with practice. We don't have to know the details of how a car works to drive it but it helps to know when something is broken....same with the brain & psychology

I had a counselor do this with CBT, DBT, and Acceptance theories. It was pretty fascinating. I've always loved learning how the brain and mind worked. Learning and seeing it work together with therapy practices made it that much more interesting.

I'm with you penguin. I need to know how things work & understand the concepts before I'm willing to accept anything. Never could blindly accept anything. Learning is exciting....lol even at my age....never too old to learn new fascinating information.
