Hiya,

I'm 20 years old, and since the age of about 14 - I've struggled with periods of time where I become overwhelmed with emotion, depressed and hopeless and I started self harming. My life itself is good - I have a job that I love/ nothing traumatic has happened in my life...but my head feels chaotic and constant and messy for months at a time and I'm struggling to cope with it. I hadn't self harmed in a year and a half - but last week I went straight back to it. I'm spending most of my time in bed, I;m isolating myself from everyone and it's like I am watching myself unravel and I can't deal with it. I don't know what to do, or who to talk to and I just don't know how to keep picking myself up from it. :'(

You don't mention if you are in counseling, but that would be a good place to start given your history of self harm. Or see a psychiatrist for possible medication help. Both are viable help for having such thoughts and feelings.

Hello GreenerGrass100: I'm sorry you have encountered this difficulty. As gayleggg mentioned, seeking the services of a mental health therapist, or possibly a psychiatrist, is probably the appropriate way for you to approach this. It is going to be important for you to address what is going on with you. As you already know, it does become increasingly wearing to keep having to keep picking yourself up from the kinds of struggles you are facing.

Since this is your first post, here on PC, welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

Hey, I'm close to the same age and unraveling too. This time in life is chaotic as is, add depression on top of that and you're mind can become a total mess.
I agree that to begin the search for answers a good starting place is counseling of some sort. If only to properly learn the logic and science behind your situation. And it's also good to get stuff out, but you can also do that here, too.

Welcome to PC.
