i went to my doctor today because i have been very depressed with a lot of anxiety. i thought about going back on my anti depressant imipramine. i have not taken it for a long time. i am nervous for some reason to take it again, but i feel as if i need to. i am also starting therapy in two weeks. i am happy about that. i just feel so anxious. i felt as if i was going to have an anxiety attack at the doctors. i am so lost. i cant even get one day that i feel free of mental illness. i thought life was to be fun.

OH man (or woman), me too... I thought that life was to be fun.
Well, not exactly, but at least I thought it would come in tasty mouthfuls... maybe sometimes bitter other times sweet, but not this greyish tasteless mud that depression makes it.

Well, OK, now regarding meds, you can only trust your pdoc... he knows things, you don't. Of course you are entitled (and I urge you) to ask explanations (it does not exist a thing such as "wasting the doc's time"). But after all, tTake the pills and forget them, even because except a few lucky cases the meds are a support to help therapy.

Starting therapy is the important thing you must focus on now.
The most important advice is to be active. Of course, being active for a depressive is hard, but it's vital. No serious therapist can be pissed off if the patient asks things such as "what is the urpose of therapy now" or observations such as "I feel that lately we're going nowhere". SO I'll summarize it as LEAVE NOTHING UNSAID. OK?

Come on, the best of luck!

i can understand your concerns about taking up meds again after being off of them for so long. i was in that spot myself. i took them back up myself and i have recently started back with therapy. i can't express enough what a help therapy is in and of itself. sometimes just learning new coping skills and behavioral changes can help just as much if not more than meds do. so, i guess what i am trying to say is if you are worried about the meds, try therapy first before you take that leap. meds may not be necessary.

good luck,
