I'm sure you guys have seen my posts about being tired. I'm being treated for hypothyroidism which is helping, and also just increased my Ritalin dose(ADHD). But I'm still tired. I've been thinking it is a medical reason, but maybe it is just because of my toddler? I have a 13 month old who still doesn't sleep all night. She wakes usually 3 times. Normally she'll go back to sleep with a bottle, although we are trying to wean her from bottles. But I just don't have the energy to try to put her back to sleep in ways that will take longer if it is 3 am. My husband isn't working now and he helps with the night time duties but I still do some of them and I am stilll getting woken up. I have always needed a lot of sleep. Who thinks my issue is mostly because of the baby waking up? I'm sure people with kids have some insight. I don't know why she's such a bad sleeper. We are still co sleeping partly for this reason...

Although your child's sleeping habits certainly contribute to your tiredness, I personally doubt she is the sole cause. Depression itself, antidepressant medications and the hypothyroidism all may be at fault. I also suffer from hypothyroidism and am taking medication for it, but that treatment has done little or nothing to alleviate my own low energy, and I'm not dealing with a child.

Of course having a little one who wakes up during the night makes you tired! I think the co-sleeping is a good idea. That way when your toddler awakens you don't have to get up on your feet and come fully awake. Still, being awake several times during the night, sure, causes sleepiness during the day. Don't worry, though...your kiddo will be sleeping through the night eventually

I don't think it's unusual for 13 month old babies to wake up several times during the night. I'm not a parent, but my sister and brother are, and they say all the time how tiring taking care of babies is, especially with the sleepless nights. I remember my sister was synchronizing her sleep with her babies to get as much sleep as she possibly could.

So your thyroid is now in the normal range and you are still exhausted? They started me on 25 mg my levothyroxine and after 8 weeks I got tested, she didn't give me a value but said it was close to normal but they still upped my dose to 50. Just about to get tested again after 8 weeks of that.

Before I started the meds I was sooooooooo tired for a few months or was unbelievable. It was like there was no words to describe my exhaustion and it was a wonder I was actually able to work. It's been hard on my marriage. Now I am just tired and it isn't so awful but it is still pretty bad. I am not on antidepressants at the moment.

I'm kind of happy to hear this. Sometimes it seems like everyone's kid sleeps through the night by now and mine is the only one.

Thanks. I just wonder if it is the main cause of my exhaustion or not. And I am trying to remember this won't last forever! But we do want a second one...😬

The simple answer is yes. I have for long suffered from a number of issues, both mental and physical, for which I'm taking meds. Treating all those problems that can make me tired still has not resolved my "excessive daytime sleepiness" nor lack of energy. As a number of possible causes for the low energy exist, I cannot say with certainty that hypothyroidism is the culprit.

My very best wishes for finding ways to get beyond the tiredness!

Yeah I understand what you mean. I don't know where my exhaustion comes from either, since there are so so many possible causes, mental and physical. I feel exhausted but sometimes I just want to sleep because nothing else seems as good as just being asleep or being in bed, which is obviously depression related. But sometimes I go to bed and not do anything because I'm afraid of being tired. Like my toddler is napping now, and yesterday I didn't rest while she did and I was a zombie all afternoon. Now I chose to rest with her even though I wasn't really tired (yet). The whole time I was resting I kept thinking I'd rather be asleep than anything else. But then I remind myself that everything that has happened and made my life "my life" has happened when I was Awake. Weird I know. Best of luck with your exhaustion. Do you work full time?
Thanks for this!
