So, I originally joined PC to find ideas on how to help my son get some help (he gets anxious talking to people, so refuses to talk to a professional), and he had a bit of a set back this week.
I was diagnosed with mild depression about three years ago, and was able to manage it with yoga, a few therapy sessions and an extremely supportive husband and family and friends. Lately though, I've had a harder time managing, and now have a prescription for Clonazapam, and find my self taking a small dose (0.25mg) each night to help me sleep. My husband is worried about me....I'm crying a lot more and feel exhausted. My boss has been extremely supportive, allowing me to work from home as needed. I don't know at what point I should consider going on anti depressants - I'm worried about the side effects, and don't know if my depression is 'bad enough' to warrant medication. I am still seeing a therapist every now and then, but it's mostly just talking - don't know if she's using any cognitive behavioural therapy with me....so don't know if maybe I should start with that, and see if I have any success with that before going to my doctor to talk about medications. Thanks for your support! |

You couls ask the therapist what think o f the possibility of meds for you. They may give some good guidance based on their experience

You can always go off the meds if there are side effects you can't tolerate.
I'm on Celexa and Wellbutrin and have had some mild side effects. But the medication is helping so much that I would rather live with the effects than go off the meds or try other meds. --Ceara

Do you have a pdoc that you could schedule an appointment with to investigate your depression and see if meds are needed?
