Anyone tips for eating when you're not hungry? Besides meals I try to eat more often and I really intend to eat a substantial amount - for example I'll take a full bag of crisps or liquorice or something with me to my room, intending to eat a lot, but after a few crips or two pieces of liquorice I really start to distaste it. The only thing I still like to eat is popsicles, but that doesn't really make up for the minimal amount of food I consume besides the popsicles. My favourite dishes - I don't really like them anymore.
I don't want to become underweight again (I was severely underweight a few years ago because I barely (and later: not at all) ate due to the depression) because I'm tired enough already. Also, I don't want my parents interfering with my eating habits (I live with them) which they will certainly do if I continue to lose weight. Anyone tips? This is not a problem I have. I understand, however, that part of the standard advice is, when you feel you can eat, eat nutrient-dense foods. Classic nutrient-dense foods, however, may not be all that appetizing.

Could you try for several small meals several times a day? You could get some whey protein and mix it with milk to get your protein. What about things like ensure, boost or carnation breakfast to keep calories going in? Are you taking any vitamins or supplements? I do understand your concern. I have serious gastrointestinal problems and there are weeks at a time that I can hardly keep water down. I'm usually stuck with soup and mashed potatoes...one slow spoonful at a time. Good luck and best wishes.

I have this problem too, I find eating little and often helps. Things like soup are good when when chewing feels like too much. I find things taste like cardboard in my mouth, so really tasty flavours definitely help when everything seems bland. I found porridge quite easy to eat, it would take me a while and was usually going cold before I finished it, but could add fruit or honey or chocolate to it to make it nicer and I found having a good breakfast like that really helped me through the day.

I'll tell you about a trick we use with my elderly grandmother to keep her weight up.
We make her shakes in her favorite flavors. She is fine with dairy, so we use ice cream and milk. Shakes can also be soy-based or based on plant protein. You want the shakes to have lots of calories. If all else fails, on bodybuilding.com you can look up "Weightgainers" shake. It's specifically made to gain weight. Yu can also supplement in between meals with Glucerna or a similar type of a product. Just a couple of ideas. ![]() WC |
