Hello friends,
Today I was looking for some therapy here in London. I also asked to the NHS for free therapy but the most they can offer os 6 sessions or, very rarely, 20 sessions. I read that fighting depression requires times, in the worst cases also years, so how can a 6 sessions-therapy help me or others?
The private therapy I was looking for on the internet are bloody expensive and I can't afford those type of counselling. I'm sure a lot of other people are in my situation.
I know that the majority of you are from the USA so I'm not really sure how things work across the pond, but don't you think depression is considered as a posh-mental illness? If you have money you will be treated, otherwise we will talk with you for a month and then adios!
If i break my leg I will be treated, maybe paying some type of fee, but not £160 every time I go and see my MD.
This situation is very frustrating for me because I had finally decided to ask for help after 6 years of living hell, and know I know I won't be able to afford therapy.
What do you think?

I'm in the uk too and I agree that 6 sessions or even 20 sessions is very sub optimal to help or treat Depression (for most people imo )

I think there may be a "cultural problem" and more stigma over here

I'm from the U.S. and it does work a little different here. From what I've heard about NHS and the cost of private therapy over there, it's pretty ridiculous. It shouldn't be that costly or that difficult to get the proper amount of help. I've never heard of depression being successfully treated after only six session. That's BS. I'd say to keep shopping for something more affordable if you can.

Best of luck.

Totally BS, I agree with you. I am looking for a job rn and I hope to save up some money in order to afford something better.

I hope you are able to work things out. It can be a bit dicey over here as well. Both my pdoc and tdoc stopped taking my insurance and I'm having to pay them out of pocket. It gets expensive. Good luck.

Same here, I got 5 visits through my employer but it was somewhat helpful (otherwise I can't afford it) Maybe it would be worth a try to get started?

I really would like to do something to abolish this stigma. In these days I'm watching some TED talks about it, and comedy is a powerful tool to spread messages

I'll surely try what the NHS can offer... I'm just scared for the future
