I got laid off today. No unemployment benefits, nothing.
My major concern is that this will make my already chronic depression and anxiety worse. In other words that it will impact my recovery and trigger traumas. Of course I am also very much scared of ending up on the street, which is likely since I have no family or friends. I am trying not to entertain these negative thoughts. Can I get some advice on how to handle depression when unemployed? Thank you very much in advance.

So sorry to hear of you becoming unemployed. Allow yourself to grieve that loss for a day and then go immediately in to job hunting mode. Give yourself the purpose of making sure you update your resume and apply for everything and any employment that interests you. Make yourself really pro active on the job hunting. Visit employers, send out your resume, apply online etc. Dont listen to depression's negative voice. You've already proved that you are employable. Good luck!

Getting laid off sucks!
![]() I agree with what the others said. Be proactive! Juice up your resume, pick out an interview outfit, shine your shoes. Get up every morning and get coffee, get dressed. Get out there. If you are doing everything you can to find a job, you can enjoy some guilt free time off.

I am so sorry!! I’ve been laid off, and it is hard.
I found my state has unemployment classes that were free and helpful. Have you applied for unemployment? What kind of work do you do? I found the muse (online) 31 most common interview questions super helpful (just google this). I was asked many of these questions and I was ready!! You will be OK. You found a job before; you will find another!!! |
