Anyone else affected by the changing of the seasons, namely, for me, when it gets darker earlier and earlier? I find the early darkness so extremely disturbing, I check myself into psychiatric emergency. It doesn't help there have been some other difficult adjustments in my life! Going to go have a good cry......

I feel blue at times, especially when I wake up. It could be general anxiety that causes these unhappy feelings, although because the days in the fall seem shorter, you may find you feel 'shut in' more often. It's also quite cold outside too, and that can make it hard to get out to see people if you have a physical disability, because you probably wouldn't want to go too far.

My mood sours this time of year. I hate the change of seasons, the shorter days and colors of fall.

I hate the winter, most of all the short days.
The lack of sunlight and that feeling like it's dark all the time just depresses me.

I feel relatively the same all seasons but I know people who get depressed during the winter season. The only thing that really affects me is my allergies when the weather drastically changes quickly, and I get stuffy nose because of ragweed and such.

I have SAD. I have to admit I love the Winter though as much as I love the Summer. I love the snow and the cold and the warming up and the hot chocolates and did I mention snow lol! Can you tell I am not a driver. However this year I was plagued with depression in the Summer and still suffering a wee bit now been a long 3 and a bit months. I am now coming out of it and feel myself hyper at nights now. I am hoping no depression in the Winter as it kills me in the Winter.

I have SAD. My doctor puts me on an extra AD and I pull out my sun box and spectrum lighting lamps.
Thanks for this!

I agree with Jennifer that a lightbox is great. I can tell a huge difference in the winter. I have started lists in my journal "fall is" winter is" and "rain is" to try to respond differently to the weather. Like for example too see rain as a million little drops of adventure because waters been around forever and travels all over the planet.

I also write myself a note every day of the summer to open on the corresponding day of the winter with encouragement and directions for what to do that day sometimes. They are notes from summerbritt to winterbritt

Hi. I am not sure if I do. I am seeing a pdoc next month and now think it's a possibility. In the last few days, I have been eating sleeping too much, which has impacted my energy levels to do things I need in my life like school work.

This has happened before, a few years ago, so...

I feel your pain I hope you seek help. Do try a sun lamp. I have heard it helps. But always listen to a doctor to be sure.

I get hugely depressed when falls. The leaves on our big tree in th back yard started Falange today and in the dumps.

I'm depressed all year round but fall and winter are my favorite seasons and I tend to do better mentally during these seasons. For myself, I think it's because of swaddling, being bundled up in extra layers of clothing and feeling snug, like being hugged. There are a few more things I love about these seasons, but swaddling is the best of them for me.

A good cry sometimes helps. Be well and I hope you feel better soon.

I tend to get S.A.D. during the spring and summer. I feel better when fall comes around and I love the winter months. On the other hand, I reside at a place that has nice winters and not cold that much. Yesterday it was hot outside. It got up to the 90s and it felt like summer all over again. It made not feel so great.

I don't like the spring and summer much because of the heat and the noise I get from the neighbors at times. Also it pains me to see the neighbors having fun with get-togethers while I am alone. Another thing that I don't like about the spring and summer is that it reminds me of the bad times I had, including the medical diagnoses and problems. I had major surgery one year in April.

I guess I can understand the SAD during the fall and winter. I used to live in the northeastern part of the US. I used to get very depressed during the fall when I was living there. The winters were not bad for me. But I would feel a let down when it got very warm in the spring, even though the spring was a welcomed time at first after a cold winter.

My mood has dropped a lot since October started. I hate this time of year. I especially hate winter. The sun is just not out enough. The trees are really changing where I live and I hate it. I just want to hibernate the entire fall and winter months.
