This leaves me with the question

He said how basically he can’t “deal with my talking in these hot conditions”

I completely understand and respect that.

So this leaves me with the question ... where if anywhere is it “safe” to share my feelings, or even to talk

To be brutally honest, even your mind isn't a safe place to keep your thoughts. There's no safe place to share your thoughts, you can only share it over the internet and try to be anonymous as possible. Talk to a close friend, or anyone really you feel close to. But don't expect it to remain private.

Awwwww. Papa Bear is hot and tired and Fuzzy Bear has a lot on her mind. That happens sometimes at my house too.

Keep sharing your thoughts and feelings. Not everybody will be on the same page as you at the same time but I think eventually we will all get there.

Times like these I curl up with a good book... One on the meaning of life... or perhaps just a good mystery to distract my busy brain.

The meaning life confounds me on a daily basis. 🤯

I speculate "safety" is much more a matter of "who" than "where". "When" and "how" must also enter consideration.

Everywhere is where to share your thoughts and feelings. You could stand up on a soap box in the town square and shout them from the roof tops. Sure, someone might tell you to shut up, but so what?

True, in summer with no air conditioner, even loving Papa Bear’s fuse runs short.

The meaning of life is a big question Fuzzy.

I guess feeling the good times makes it worth while. I sometimes try to call on a good time when I had felt happy to remember it is possible to actually be happy.

Why are we here though? For me, being not religous, we are random atoms fused together, some happier than others but we are all worth just the same.

The bigger question for me, is how did we manage to set up society, where some people are seen as better than others?

Humans are intelligent enough to think there is a meaning of life and not smart enough to figure out that there is not any.

Life has no meaning.


Today I just attended a paleontology lecture. Our professor talked about the origin of life briefly. He said nobody in particular knows how life came into existence except that there are some theories. We cannot know for sure. Now here it gets interesting. He talked about the fact that horses once had two nails and once were dog sized. But as the environment around them changed, certain parts of their body were used more and more in different ways while certain parts were used less and less. Since the dog sized horses were weak and small and dull, they couldn't survive. Those who did, ran fast remarkably and this differentiation sat them apart from other dog sized horses. Eventually due to the exercise of running they grew larger in size (more muscular) and the parts which hindered their ability to run were genetically discarded. So here comes our modern horse.

Then our professor talked about modern man. He mentioned how once we were a chimpanzee-like species, walking on all four legs. Then some changes took place and we became more and more erect. Then he talked about Homo sapiens sapiens and how our intellect set us apart from other animals... then the lecture went to typical paleontology stuff (including ice ages and stuff) not directly related to the origin of life.

It's INDISPENSABLE for us to understand that we are animals no matter what happens. We are just like all the animals here in this earth. We are not aliens or robots. We have a common ancestor. We do not have a "purpose" in life, nothing has. We are born, so we live, do some things and then die, just like every other animal. But man has a some sort of alcoholic influence (I call delusion) that he is a superior form of life and somehow he can control nature and whatever life that's been left in it. That's not true! We are a form of life living in this planet for no particular reason. Every life is meaningless. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of each other.

An example is a giraffe. They feed themselves, survive, reproduce, and then die. That's their "purpose." Ours is the same too, except we incredibly complicated that damn thing. Now we've got to "marry", "raise a family", "maintain a job", "support the family" etc. etc. before dying. I call it bullcrap. It's a mistake that man evolved. We should never have evolved. They say anything excess is a disaster. We have excess intelligence. It's going to be our end before the next ice age comes.

Basically, as far as biology is concerned, we have the same purpose in life.
1) Feed yourself
2) Survive
3) Reproduce
4) Die.

But we... are smart enough to change the laws of nature. So nature is going to change itself so we'd have an even more painful end than dinosaurs. It's very unfortunate people get sad over "purpose of life", while it's nothing but survival and reproduction. I don't get it why we complicated it this much...

Really good discussion LonelyChemist. I don’t disagree with you and I enjoy contemplating this stuff. Yet I still cant help but think there is more to the picture that we will never understand. A design of some sort that does have a power of sorts in all our lives... animals or people. I guess I like to think or wonder if there’s a 5th step in there somewhere. 🤷🏼❤️

Scientifically speaking every animal is just born for the sake of being born. It's called continuation of a species. Other animals do not have a special purpose (aside from maintaining the balance of food chain and maintaining the atmosphere of earth) so how can humans be exceptions? I get it, we are evolved in some aspects (like intelligence and immunity) but that doesn't mean we are divine or there's some higher power that organized all this. Our professor ended the lecture when I asked the question (yes it happened) "Sir, what about climate change? Does that affect the interglacial period?" and he said, "We have millions and millions of galaxies with their own solar systems. It's impossible for man to fully affect nature even in earth. It's very complicated, earth is just a tiny dot in the vast space of existence." So yes there IS some evidence for "purpose in life" but that is centuries away to be discovered. I find it strange that we haven't discovered life in anywhere other than earth. So yes, it's plausible, but due to personal experience , I wouldn't find myself changing my opinion from the fact that life is pointless. Just like the universe. I may sound cruel, but universe is universe for the sake of being itself.

Now I am no post-doc research fellow in some interdisciplinary science research institute, but I shared my opinion anyway. Chemistry and biology and geology are very fun to say at least.

I somewhat agree with this Thanks to all for the discussion. As I said in another thread somewhere I’m always (usually) open to discussion. I just don’t particularly “enjoy” it when people make wrong negative assumptions about me (who does... I guess someone completely “insensitive” may not care either way ).. and in this world there aren’t many “right” answers to that

Is “life” simple? I don’t think so..

Are humans strange animals? I think so

we can ponder on the fuzzy bus...we are all screwed...
we have to die....and maybe not at the right time..

Yes we are bits of recycled universe, stackexchange supports this. But what I find most baffling is WHY in the hell we evolved too much... you don't see other organisms wearing suites and expensive watches while going outside... they aren't even capable of distinct speech. Yet they're happy, as much as their "little" mind can comprehend, as long as they get food and shelter. And here I, another "highly evolved animal", am sad because I can never drive a geared bike and I am not 'normal' enough like my classmates. I too am an animal. But my 'intellect' sets me apart from my fellow brothers, dolphins and sharks and leopards.

I think we have over evolved too. I have never quite put it into those words until reading your post. Thank you.

I think the reason is something to do with our brains growing larger and learning new skills especially communication. Our brain is responsible for a lot.

If a body part fails or becomes broken there is sympathy from others unless it is your brain. Somehow if our brain breaks we are responsible for our fate. We are expected to think ourselves better. I spend all day thinking myself better and sleep restores the trauma. So the day and going forward become groundhog day.

You are normal it's the way your classmates would be with your trauma.

It's mostly because of religion really. You see, people in ancient times dug holes in the skulls of the mentally ill to let the "demons go out." Now... I do not know how to react to this. Here is a detailed history of cultural view of mental illness.

People never understood the brain as an organ. That includes people from ancient Egyptians to poverty class till now in less developed countries. The belief that people with mental illness are bad passed down from generation to generation. And even today people think people with mental illness are violent. Not everyone with mental illness is violent.

I can give a personal exam. Since I started showing symptoms predominantly at the end of 10th grade (I was hearing voices by that point), in 11th grade I became a psychotic mess. I somehow managed to pass 11th grade and enrolled in a coaching class for 12th grade. Both the teachers and students slowly realized I am mentally ill. The teachers 'made the situation better' for the girls after reassuring the girls that they will possibly beat me if I do anything that harms girls.

I was a never a fan of rape or sexual harassment. I never groped a girl. In fact sometimes I prefer boys due to this reason. In the end I did nothing to girls even in my psychotic state, yet I still got angry looks from them. Granted I do not know how to behave, but emotionally abusing me won't lead to better results.
