I might have asked this question before. I’d be interested to hear anyone’s experiences in Group Therapy.

to all here

I'm actually going to be starting group therapy soon. If I remember (my memory is terrible) then I'll let you know my experience.

I was in group therapy for a year, I couldn't talk though in front of other people so I didn't really benefit at all from it.

Yes, that's my fear if I'll ever try one... I just don't think I could share my secrets to other people but I think it could be very helpful for other people

I was in a group for depression some time back. I now just started in a Narcotics Anonymous group for family members. It’s good meeting others and telling your story. I recommend it.

Hmmm..... just feeling pissed off. Nothing new there

I know what you mean Lavender, groups can be very hard and even unhelpful for some of us “sensitives”. They would need a very talented facilitator.

I tried group therapy once but it didn't goto well. I quickly gave up on it because I don't like telling my secrets to other people. From my experience though no one there seemed judgemental of anyone else & everyone there wanted to help. So if you are looking for other people to talk with then I think group therapy would be a good idea.

I've done tons of group therapy both for mental health and addictions, and I almost always get a lot out of the group.

I find that having good facilitators make a big difference, they won't let a few members dominate the group and will help the quiet people participate.

But in order to get the most out of it you have to be willing to talk and participate.

Having read this thread, I have to say that imho, almost anyone .. definitely including all in this thread, would “benefit” from group therapy with a Good Facilitator... the difficulty could be .. how to tell in advance who would be a good enough facilitator
