Has anyone found a particular diet (by that I just mean food choices, not weight loss options) that helps your depression? For example, something you enjoy eating for breakfast to set you up for a happier or more energetic day? Or an afternoon snack that gives you a little kick when you are flagging?
My doctor recommended berries for my mood...raspberries....blueberries....strawberries. Others? |

Silvertrees thanks for your question. I think a high carbohydrate diet in some people can lead to crashing of blood sugar to a low level a couple hours after eating.
For me I experimented and found that the more carbs I had the more mood swings I had. For me taking protein with every meal and limiting carbs has helped curb my constant hunger and leveled out my moods. But of course mindfulness has also helped me too so I am not certain what is doing what, but I feel better with my current diet. So if I am having blueberries or strawberries I may take them with yogurt or cooked egg whites (all protein). If I have a little oatmeal I take a small serving and do not add sweetner and add protein. Of course you are the only one that can tell what foods are good for your body and your moods. Hope you find foods that help you feel good. Exercise is another way to energize myself and keep my moods looking up.

Hey SilverTrees!
How are you doing? Great question! So, I was never a breakfast person BUT I noticed that have some scrambled eggs, sausage and toast with a nice tasty coffee makes me feel REALLY good. I know it may not be the healthiest and I do need to lose weight, but it makes me feel full and energized and most importantly, ready to tackle the day. I hope that helps answer your question!

I have a smoothie each morning that includes: a banana, berries, flax seed, protein, fiber, magnesium threonate (for my anxiety) and other added vitamins and supplements in powder form. It satisfies me and I feel great.
I fix a green smoothie in the afternoon that includes a banana, spinach and protein. I started doing this when I wanted to lose weight and feel better. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea but it works well for me. Great thread! Last edited by Sunflower123; Apr 21, 2019 at 07:43 AM. |
