Hey all. I'm not doing well at the moment at all. It's pretty bad.

Possible trigger:

This really messed me up. I tried so hard to let her know that people actually DID care about her and that she was valid. I'm furious at my job because of how it's run.

Then my apartment building is falling apart. Our apartment specifically is bad. My mom refuses to call 311 because she hates confrontation. Even though I'm an adult, I cannot call because it would cause a LOT of drama. If I was living by myself I would have called 311 multiple times. In our apartment part of the ceiling is falling off, paint is peeling, we have a mice infestation and they have dug holes everywhere, and my room had mold. Then to top it all off our neighbors play loud music to the point where my walls vibrate but when I make the slightest noise they start banging on the walls. I notice that as of late I get overstimulated very easily and I can't take it anymore.

I just walked in my room and saw a mouse dash out from somewhere and I'm sick of this.

I'm sick of living like this. I'm sick of having inconsiderate neighbors.

I'm so on edge right now that a part of me just wants to scream and throw things.

I'm not in a good place at all.

Thank you for reading.

It's understandable you would be as stressed as you are.

I agree there should definitely be more training for the peer to peer support you work at ..wondering though, is that really a healthy job for you at this time in your life? (Just a question, not accusation)

Is there any way you can move away from your mom's? If she doesn't want to do anything to get it taken care of n won't let you - then you need to take action for you.

I think it’s wonderful that you’re helping people, letting them know their feelings are valid and they aren’t alone. I’m so sorry the people in “authority” didn’t help. It would completely freak me out if that happened to me. I’m sorry you’re going through so much pain

I have worked on a suicide hotline too. I’m so sorry you went through this. I really hope you dob’t blame yourself, you did what you could do. I understand the anger you feel. But you do an important job for people that’s for sure.

I hope things get better at your home. When things are tough just take it a day, or hour, at a time.

Yea, for sure. We peers need training on how to handle these situations because counselors shouldn't be the only ones who should know how to do 911 calls. And you're right. It's not a healthy job for me but I need the money. It's hard to find jobs nowadays. I think the issue is that I went into the wrong field: mental health. So now I'm trying to start over and that's causing even more stress. And I'm saving up money to move out. I love my mom to death but sometimes I wished she was more confrontational. However, I can't wait for her to do anything. I'm trying to create a life that makes me happy and I really do have to focus on myself. Thank you for your response.

Thanks a lot. I'm certainly trying my best. I wish the supervisors were there to help me, too.

Fortunately, the woman was still alive and 911 was able to reach her in time. It was just such a scary experience for me. It really made me realize that maybe this field isn't where I'm supposed to be. Thanks a lot for your kind words.

Thanks a lot for the encouraging words everyone. I'm doing a bit better now but I don't think this is something I'll ever forget. I brought up the fact that we peers should learn how to handle these calls to my supervisor and she agreed. Unfortunately, I don't think anything will be done about it.

I agree. If you are to be talking to n working with potentially crisis stage suicidal people, you should know how to handle it properly. Otherwise it puts both the callers and workers health at risk.

What about for now, doing something with minimum stress within the mental health facilities.. like working at the reception desk or perhaps you can help with intake?

I can tell you love your Mom. I think that's an awesome thing to see these days. So many dislike one or both of their parents - it's nice to see the love. ❤ That said, I am glad you are seeing the need to focus on yourself atm too. I don't think either of you will ever be totally happy there anyway if you are always unhappy - no matter how content your Mom is or is not. ❤

If you honestly don't feel it will change - you can try going to her supervisor or the supervisor above that .. or come up with another more creative way to try to make a change happen .. or quit. I really would not reccommend staying where you know is an unsafe place for your mental health. Don't quit of course til you find other employment - but even if its flipping burgers at a fast food place, so long as that is something that would allow you to be mentally n emotionally stable - then that is better until you can find something within your field that will not threaten your health. ❤
