Ugh.. Sick of this internship.
My boss gets to me.
The person I'm supposed to be working with and me don't really get along.
So - what do I get out of this thing, I ask myself? I get paid what I would without being in this job. I know I get experience and bla bla..
I'm just sick of feeling taken advantage of and not feel appreciated while being here. When I try to pipe up in meetings with my boss, and this person I'm supposed to be working with, it practically gets ignored with hardly a response. And my coworker just sucks up to the boss, agreeing or disagreeing with everything she says.
And "No", I couldn't have any vacation next like like everybody else...

I guess you need to establish whether or not this is worth it to you. If it's not worth it, why put up with it?

I know. But do you think I sound unreasonable, or is it understandable? Hard for me to judge sometimes..

You're in a very understandable position.

At my last job, I let myself get treated like **** because it was worth it. It paid the bills and I didn't need a degree. But once it affected my mental health to the point where I had a psychotic break, it was time for me to quit. I couldn't do it anymore because it wasn't worth the risk of another break.

Thanks. Not having a mental break, though not happy about this. The thing that it’s an internship, they demand a lot of me and I get nothing out of it financially, and not appreciated really.
How did you get treated like **** for instance?

The boss put her son "under my wing" and blamed me every time he didn't do his job (which he never did) and then took my hours and gave them to him. Another time, the same worker wasn't helping any of us so I was working double, and the assistant manager told me I was "too lazy" to work under her.

I think with an internship comes necessary bull *****. I think its a matter of paying your dues, trying your best to learn what you can and learn to tolerate meaningless office interactions and politics. It does suck. With a paid position of employment you are in a better position to ask for what you need and create a persona who has boundaries and knows just how much they are willing to do. I am sorry this is so tough for you. How long is the internship? You may learn nothing about what you want to do for a living or you may learn a lot. At the very least you will learn how to deal with people you do not like.

Thank you. It’s only 4 months in all. I’m just afraid I’ll be back where I started after that and will become very depressed. I don’t know how to handle that.

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this, MatBell! I COMPLETELY understand what you mean! It IS definitely HARD to deal with people like that! I completely agree with what all the other wise, wonderful posters have already wisely said better than I ever could! Like they've ALL already wisely said, you WILL learn how to deal with this kind of people in the future! Unfortunately people like this are rather common and we're bound to deal with them one way or another! I'd suggest to just try to do YOUR BEST like you're already WONDERFULLY doing and to just take what you can! Try to hang on these four months AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN! I understand why you'd feel discourage about ALL of this though and we'll ALL COMPLETELY understand whathever decision you make! Just try to do your best, ok? That's ALL we humans can do after all and it's ALWAYS more than enough! YOU CAN DO THIS! You've DEFINITELY got this! Just let us know how things are going, ok, MatBell? Let us know if there's ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL that we can do to HELP YOU OUT! Just MENTION IT and LET US KNOW and we'll DO EVERYTHING WE CAN and TRY TO DO OUR BEST to HELP YOU OK! I PROMISE YOU THAT! PLEASE REMEMBER ALL OF THAT! Just TRY TO HANG ON as much as you possibly CAN, ok, MatBell? We ALL care about you here! You ARE loved! I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this, MatBell! You don't deserve to suffer AT ALL! Nobody deserves to suffer AT ALL, certainly not such a caring, kind, generous, supportive, sweet, wise and wonderful person LIKE YOU ARE! Sending many hugs to you, MatBell!
Thanks for this!

To me - this is one of those evaluation things.

Is it "more healthy" or "more unhealthy". (To me all jobs have some sort of unhealthy aspect for people with mh issues.)Then if the snswer is "more unhealthy", ask yourself "what kind of stress n how much of it can i deal with to remain healthy?" Then ask yourself "what jobs are available that fit that description?" Then apply for those jobs n quit this one when you obtain a new job (not before so you maintain an income). If the answer is "no jobs fit that description" - talk to your counselor about helping you with disability application and explain why you need it.

You have every justification for feeling as you do - the question is .. how unhealthy is it causing you to feel? If its causing you to have irrational thoughts or desires to harm yourself or others on a regular basis (not just occasionally), you need to evaluate this. ❤

I left today. Saying I was sick. I am a little sick but mostly it was a good excuse. Tired of feeling ignored there. Not sure when or if I will return.

You may just need it on your resume. Know that you are going to put up with various things you dont like on most jobs. If its only 4 months, it will go by fast. If you cant ignore the negative aspects and it really threatens your stability, quit.

Thanks for being supportive. I feel like a bit of a failure having left. But it’s not the end of the world. I will just accept that this is not a good day.

You are not a failure.

I used to have to leave my last job early a lot due to stress.

After a time, my home health nurse suggested disability. That's why I say you need another job or disability.

This one simply is not going to work for you.

Not bc you are a failure - just bc the stress level is too high there. .. Even "normal" people run into that problem at times. ❤
