Bad time with inner critic.

I made a mistake at my apartment complex. One that got me in trouble with the leasing office. I normally follow the rules. But yesterday I was tired and made an error in judgment. Today I received a nasty letter warning of violations and fines. It shook me up.

Now I am beating myself up. My inner critic is having a field day with me. Mainly the letter is a warning. I feel bad that I made that mistake. I won't do that again, even if it is a detriment to me. People don't care about what's really going on. They're just quick to judge. It makes me angry. I have been here 6 years and this is the first write up I get. Plus I did something that lots of other people do. I hope they wrote up everyone.

If I could just get my inner critic to quiet down, I would feel a lot better. Thanks for listening!

I once had a job where I had to send out notices to people that missed a payment. I just followed the rules and sent the notice. They were names on a list. The notices were businesslike and impersonal. I thought the notices were worded like they weren't intended for people...too legal sounding with warnings. I worried about the people. What if they forgot or couldn't pay that month?

Probably like me, there is someone following the rules to send the notice and they are not even paying attention to the list or judging anyone.

Thank you! Today was much better. I was able to discuss how I felt with my online therapist. My inner critic was quiet most of the day. Yea, I know not to take it personally. But some of the wording was personal. Like, the statement about me being inconsiderate and irresponsible. I don't know if it's a default letter. I sort of doubt it. That's how I feel about it. It doesn't matter, I don't like these people anymore. I will limit my contact with these people. I do feel pretty depressed about it all.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I have not gotten written up by my apartment complex but previously I had neighbors make complaints about my child, so I can relate in that respect. If it's something you have control over then the right thing to do is apologize and commit to not repeating the offense.
