Do you think it's typical for people to become depressed when they are recovering from surgery? I've had my gall bladder removed and the recovery is going pretty darned slow. I've had several bouts of depression, each lasting a couple of days. Sometimes I think I'm just feeling sorry for myself and other times I think family members are being inconsiderate.

All I know is I'm not feeling well physically or mentally right now and would appreciate any suggestions. thanks.

Hey ozzie, if you combine recovering from surgery and "difficult" family members I think it would be very typical to become depressed. Sending you healing thoughts, I hope this passes soon for you

Ozzie, here are a few items I found when I Googled. I have also had post op depression and some of it I believed was related to my schedule being disrupted, a side effect of pain meds, and fears and worries being stirred up.

I didn't read all these articles but I think at least one says it is typically short-lived and I believe that is true. I hope knowing that is some comfort.

I hope you re healing well and that you'll feel better soon. Depression After Surgery

Be sure to stay in your p.j.s so people can see that you don't feel well yet.
