I can identify in a lot of ways. It's just that my preferred location is the sofa instead of the bed. And no, I don't want to go anywhere. Most weeks, the only place I go is to my T's office. And even then, showering and doing all the things that I need to do to get ready feels overwhelming and makes me tired. I already don't sleep much due to a recurring nightmare, so I'm tired enough to begin with! My T is telling me to push myself a little harder about the going out. I did last night, so that she won't think of me as uncooperative. But I spent a lot of the time feeling pissed at her for "making" me do this.

Hi rrr1,

I am suffering from some of your same symptoms. I prefer to sleep all day long when I am in my depressive state. It's my escape also from the almost crippling anxiety I have. As long as I'm asleep, I'm not thinking anxious or depressive thoughts.

I, too, don't like to get out of the house unless I just absolutely have to. And taking a shower is such a chore.

You may need to see your pdoc for an adjustment in meds. I had an adjustment in mine but I haven't changed yet. I just got them.

Take care and I hope you get to feeling much better. I know that it is frustrating. I wish I could give you some better advice but I'm in the same boat as you are.

Hey, there is a theme here. Some of us have chatted in chat about what an effort it is to shower and dress. I too want to stay in bed and don't want to go out to work etc. But I have to. I support my family. For me I am unclear if it's depression and I need a med change, or grief. There is a third possibility, that it is related to the pain meds I take. bed is my favorite place. sleep is my favorite state. I hope we all find things to be awake and alive for.

I find it hard to move when I am depressed. Even when I am well and happy, I think sleep is wonderful, a great hobby IMHO. Of course, when I am well and happy, I am less likely to sleep more than 8 hours, and more likely to want to shower, eat.

When I am depressed, I sit like a lump, TV on in the background, computer on my lap, and it's hard to get motivated to leave the chair to go to the bathroom.

Yup, been there, didn't like it.

Everyday it seems to be a fight to get out of bed. I too sleep horribly at night and tend to wake up several times. I wake up feeling exhausted and never well rested.
Depression stinks like that. It can make us feel lethargic and tired all the time. It can take a lot of effort to want to motivate ourselves to get up and move.
If I really feel as though I am feeling crappy I usually allow myself a little extra time in bed, even if it is just cuddling and not sleeping. Sooner or later though I tell myself. "Get up you cannot stay here forever."
Do you have a therapist? This should be something you should talk to him/her about.

Stay strong,
Jessica

I can't EVER get enough sleep. One of those things where "too much is never enough." And on that note, I think I'm gonna go back to bed.

*sex* what is that again? sigh. if you are depressed and can still do that, then that's a good thing. Though I am no longer married, I recall that lack of sex is often the main complaint of the spouse with regards to their spouse's depression. At least I don't have that to consider.

I like wtf's comment... it's hard to MOVE when depressed...
