I have received some bad news this week........psychiatrist dumped me and now my psychologist wont see me for 2 months.

How do I keep myself safe?

I have no friends or family.

Your psychologist should have left someone to fill in for him/her. If not call a crisis line to get help.
Thanks for this!

hi sweetie, i agree with leacon - call a crisis line if there is no one else around.

also, are you going to look into getting a new (and better!) pdoc? i hope so, they can be very helpful.

is there any way to call your psychologist and get names of someone to go to in those 2 months? and also someone to call for the meds?

Right now for meds I go to my family doctor. I think I'll just make my home into a "hospital" of sorts. I don't work or go to college right now....so I don't need to go any where.

I haven't had a positive experience with the crisis line in the past. One crisis line told me its a one call only service. Another asked at the time if I had a therapist and when the crisis line worker found out she said to just wait till my appt. and let me go.

I would encourage you to do what others have said, call your psychologist's office and ask for names of other therapist you can see until your's is available again. I find it hard to believe your therapist would have taken off for two months without giving you this information. Perhaps you should look into finding a new psychologist.

Why did your psychiatrist dump you?

My psychiatrist dumped me because I left some nasty voice messages saying that I was going to end my life and that I would medicate myself since he was of no use (I was experiencing no sleep for 4 days/nights straight). I let my temper and lack of sleep get the better of me. He misinterpreted me when I said "I would medicate myself because he was of no use".....I was just venting my anger because he wouldn't prescribe new sleeping medication over the phone he insisted that I come to his office. I had no sleep for 4 days/nights straight and I can't afford a $40 taxi ride (and I have no one to drive me).

My psychologist didn't dump me per say. She just said basically that I needed to take a break from therapy since I couldn't commit to my sessions and had missed numerous appts with her. She said it wasn't benefiting me or her. And to call her back in 2 months if I still wanted to see her.

aya, sounds crazy over there :crazy

I'm sorry you're going through this... I agree about crisis lines, ... when I have called they kinda... were more interested in getting my zip code and phone number than anything else x.x to the point where I just hug up

erm neways, I still think you need to have someone you can call. I dunno exactly who will work but you NEED someone. Can you still call your therapist if you are in crisis? Is she available to call? Do you have a family member or friend you can trust?
*just trying to come up with some ideas for you*

Hi Turq

My therapist/psychologist doesn't take personal calls. My brother (my parents are both dead) won't deal with me because of my mental health issues...etc. I have no real friends at all ....... I have one sorta friend but she is 10 years younger than me and is a very very private person ..... so it would be hard to open up to her and trust her.......I don't want to scare her away........she doesn't know that I have Bipolar 1 and PTSD.

I feel awful because this person has invited me to parties/gatherings and to church, but I was unable to go either due to anxiety, medications (making me beyond sleepy), and mild social phobia.

Posting messages on PC has helped. I don't feel so alone. It helps to pass the time and gain some insight.

Just a thought, that sometimes private people ... are more likely to open up with someone who opens up to them first? I don't know this person, so take this with a grain of salt... but do consider talking about it.
I would base the decision to talk or not to talk on how you think they would treat someone with a mental illness... some people are more comfortable than others.

Always PC
And always can pm or contact me in other ways

I can really relate here. that has happened to me too. It's not something you can control, dont be to hard on yourself.

As far as who to contact...
I feel that having a T, you should have someone to call. My current T has an answering service which will contact her. She has always called right back within 10 minutes, except for the time she was on vacation. The way she put it, is that if I were calling everyday, that means I need more than the counseling she was providing and she would want me somewhere else, but if I really were in crisis she should be there for any of her patients.
Maybe you could consider other therapists, or maybe you could talk to her about who to call... it IS important to have the contact.

But for now, you have PC, you can always pm me, email, instant message (and I really do mean that )

sending many many hugs

If I may suggest that you go to a support group, once or twice a week...

Another thing you might really like to do is join in a 'mat' class at a local pilates or yoga studio... going to a class is usually about 10 dollars and is filled with positive energy.

If you find a studio you like, and light exercises you think are totally cool, you might go 2x a week, or more.

The more you go, the less it costs.

Anyway, these are a few of the things that I do... hope it helps.

Also, you might take a meditation tape to bed with you, and I find it puts me out to sleep in the best way possible... all relaxed and with no troubles in my mind.

If I wake up, I press the remote, to play it again.

I love it.

Or I listen to music that works with our BPM, and that is plain healthy-crazy!!!

I love 'bedtime beats' and other tapes from wonderful musicians, both olden golden and new age, and the PhD's that use meditative techniques for any issue, like healthful sleeping and general wellness, are fantastic.

PM if you need to know more.

I know that libraries carry cd's you can borrow for this very purpose.

Best to you
Peace and Rest,
Night
xoxo

I thought I was improving since I wasn't so needy for Clonzapam when my former pdoc increased my dosage of Lamictal.

I was so wrong! I have bipolar 1 and sometimes at home (only) I hear voice that I know are not real at all. As the Clozapam started to reduce out of my system the voices became louder and longer in duration. To the point I couldn't relax on the couch or get back to sleep.

I have decide to go back on Clonzapam until i get my new pdoc and see what he/she thinks. I just know from readings that Clonzapam is known for weight gain.

_______________

Thank-you for all of your advice and kind words!
