I have the dentist to repair a broken tooth and filling on Monday 25th June.
I feel very ill today...as well as my high blood sugar result,I found out today that my renal results are abnormal,I don't know the details yet of if I am in kidney failure but there is a problem and I know I feel really tired, drowsy and weak.I will see the diabetic nurse tomorrow and may find out more then. Is anyone here aware of or has kidney problems as a result of diabetes can fill me in on what could be wrong? |

i have an excellent new doc, FINALLY~! and she put me on Losartan (half the minimum dose) for blood pressure, as a prophylactic (protection) for my kidneys and liver (to protect those tiny blood vessels). the pharmacist recommended that i start taking a clorestoral med to protect my heart, but i declined. i have bad reactions to so many common meds, it's not worth it to me, to gain 20 lbs just to find out that a med makes me sick.....

hello folks!
Having stayed off sugar and sugary drinks for 24 hours I feel better and my body doesn't hurt so much.I saw the diabetic nurse, she says I MUST stay off sugar and bring my blood sugar readings down to single figures. She said I also need to lose weight.I will see her again for a progress report July 10th.I am to have three monthly reviews while my sugars are uncontrolled and high. After the nurse I saw the doctor asking for anti virals cos I have a virus infection, doctor says they don't prescribe anti virals cos they are usually ineffective. She said if I have a non specific virus infection the symptoms are worst because my diabetes is uncontrolled and my blood sugar is high. She said get your blood sugars down and the virus infection symptoms will die down too.I said while I am here can you tell me if it is my kidneys or liver that came back with an abnormal result, she said it was my liver,I have already been diagnosed with fatty liver so I need to lose weight and cut out fat to deal with that. All in all I had a better day today.I know I can be in control of what I eat and hence in control of my own health.I want to be well and it is in my own hands and I have the power to either eat foods that are slow poison or eat foods good for my health.I think to keep my kidneys and extremities and eye sight well I have to completely give up sugar. |

Good job Marilyn. When it's not too hot maybe you could experiment with herbal teas though not the iced bottled kind. Lemon Tea is nice and Peppermint Tea is too. Licorice tea is also quite lovely. Drinking fluids does not have to be boring at all.
Yesterday I tried to get an ex-ray of my mouth taken. I waited for as long as I could but my carer had another job she had to be at. Not sure how long this worker is going to last. Today I went to a different place on the way home from picking up the antibiotics but it was peak hour and could not get a park at all. I am rinsing my mouth with warm salty water. |

Possum I hope the problems with your mouth are resolved soon.
It sounds painful. I will enjoy trying out all the different herb teas. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Hi guys,
Just getting back from the beach. It was just beautiful weather and I started a great book! Gus how's the new med working out for you? We have an appointment coming up with the oncologist. His stage is kind of iffy on what the treatment will be. Possum I hope your mouth is feeling better. Marilyn I know you will get your sugar under control. Just one foot in front of the other. __________________ True happiness comes not when we get rid of all our problems, but when we change our relationship to them, when we see our problems as a potential source of awakening, opportunities to practice patience and learn.~Richard Carlson |

Thanks Deejay, I just did my online shopping basket to order food for next week,no usual chocolate cake, chocolate or sugary treats, just pulses, cereal, vegetables, fruit, soya milk.
I am avoiding sauces with my meals too.It is difficult cos all processed foods have sugar and I have to buy some cos can't cook every meal I don't have the strength or energy. The beach sounds lovely...how I would love to be able to go to the seaside, live there even. I hope your husband's next stage of treatment goes well Deejay. |

well done, Marylin~! many veggies can be eaten raw, you know... (salads) what are 'pulses' ? i started that new BP med 4 months ago, DJ, and since it's a prophylactic (preventative), we can't really know what's going on.... but i haven't had any bad side effects, so i continue to take it... thanks for asking. __________________ AWAKEN~! |

Thanks for asking friends. My second lot of antibiotics will finish tomorrow and my mouth is not sore. I wonder though if it isn't an infected tooth but something going on with my sinuses. I am going to get the ex-ray done Monday. Hopefully third time is a charm and that it will happen.
I went and had my eyes checked this week. Was pleased to know that things are pretty much the same despite my being a year over due for the appointment - where does the time go - and there is no change in eye pressure or developing cataracts/glaucoma. (Family history there). Beaches are nice Deejay hope you were able to blow some cobwebs out. Good thinking about online shopping Marilyn. Takes temptation out of the equation. It's cold here and my nose is like a dogs cold and wet. Today's exercise will be house work and maybe some garden work - that's is if there is no rain. |

Gus - I went to the medical center’s opthomologist for a while, but I felt the optometrist at Costco had better equipment and did a better job, believe it or not!
Of course they are independent of Costco, so I don’t know what they would be like where you are. I can have a dialated eye exam or pay a modest additional fee for some sort of scan where they don’t have to give the blurry eye drops anymore. So, I said I’ll just pass on paying the fee, and the optometrist said no, they needed the imaging because of the diabetes risks. They gave it to me for free. They pull up comparisons of these elaborate pictures of the innards of the eyes showing the vessels too and look for damage and spots and such. They pull up several pictures over time looking for changes, so it is good to find a place to keep going to over time because some very subtle “things” on the image mean nothing if they never change but need referral if they ever do. My last optometrist never told me what she was looking at, just that all was fine. The current one tells me what exactly he is looking at and why. When she left, I asked reception to give me someone people my age like, someone good with progressives. That’s how I got him The worst part is holding the eye open for the puff of air. It isn’t terrible. |

I went to see a family optometrist. It gets bulk billed to the government so they pay for it. I get my eyes checked because of family history, diabetes and psych meds can be notorious for affecting eyesight too.
They just put a drop in your eye and then take a picture of the back of the eye. She held my each eye lid apart for a second or two because I have a rapid blinking response. It is quick and very cool to see the pictures of the back of the eye and have them compared to the last time. Last time I had an issue with a very small vein in my eye and this time it had mended itself. She let me see the pictures from this year and last year and explains everything. I have very good eyes "for my age" Don't have Costco near me - seems like a one stop shop for everything. Gus why did a doc tell you you had a blowout? You shouldn't have to google something that sounds as serious as that. |

thanks for the feedback on eyesight~! i am a 'self-diagnoser'; i don't trust docs, so i only believe them if they agree with me ~ hahahahah
i went to the doc because i had flashes of light and black spots in my right eye, and when i googled it, i got "retinal tear". well, even i know that's serious, sometimes requiring surgery to tack it back down. the symptoms are from fluids leaking from the inner eye under the retinae. it can lead to blindness. so i went; i am quite familiar with the regular eye exam, puff and all... this doc said my pressure was 'high', and i needed a glaucoma exam... but he didn't tell me how to get one~! there are only 2 eye docs in this town, and no ophthalmologists at all, for 70 miles, and i don't drive anymore. so, a yr later, i still don't have the G test, whatever that might be. no eye doc has ever shown me pics of my eyes... they just say: are you cheating ??? when they test my peripheral vision~! hahahah,, now with the new machines they can see clearly that i'm not~! __________________ AWAKEN~! |
