Thanks for the warning Gus...I tend to shut off the worst that could happen but of course you are right, consequences of continual high sugar levels are grim.

Only one person ever described high blood sugar to me in those terms. It was a nurse that was explaining how to use the glucose machine. Then she got out a flip chart to to through how high blood sugar damages the body.

She said the blood thickens and can’t get through tiny vessels to the eyes. The eye doc is always checking for damage. I remember that much. I have always thought about that...

Finished one course of antibiotics for my mouth but the infection is not gone anywhere. Somebody mentioned rinsing my mouth out with a warm salt wash. Have to contact the dentist for another script. Yay......... not.

possum, i use hydrogen peroxide with a little baking soda in it for an anti-biotic mouthwash. but seriously, ask your dentist for that Zovirax, it's an anti-VIRAL.

also, if you take an oral antibiotic, you need to take a high-variety probiotic after you're done, to replace the good little critters in your gut that died off.

Oh possum so sorry that antibiotic didn't do it's job. Antibiotics and me don't agree. They always leave me feeling sick even when they clear up infection.

Ugh, my own dental problems here—three cavities. When my blood sugar is up my teeth melt down at the same time. It is no coincidence. Last visit was a cracked tooth, crown and scare (I didn’t need a root canal, but they thought so initially...I think the pain was an ear infection that showed up later—first one ever).

So much hard work out the window with the psych meds. Weight gain, return of diabetes, and now cavities <sob>

OK, I will try to find my big girl panties now...

I’m so sorry...they might pull something stronger on you now. Yogurt with the good probiotics helps with the side effects, or probiotics in pill form.

I mean the gastrointestinal side effects (sorry).

I have the dentist to repair a broken tooth and filling on Monday 25th June.

I feel very ill today...as well as my high blood sugar result,I found out today that my renal results are abnormal,I don't know the details yet of if I am in kidney failure but there is a problem and I know I feel really tired, drowsy and weak.I will see the diabetic nurse tomorrow and may find out more then.

Is anyone here aware of or has kidney problems as a result of diabetes can fill me in on what could be wrong?

Kidney problems are pretty common with diabetes. Lots of people with diabetes end up on dialysis.

i have an excellent new doc, FINALLY~! and she put me on Losartan (half the minimum dose) for blood pressure, as a prophylactic (protection) for my kidneys and liver (to protect those tiny blood vessels). the pharmacist recommended that i start taking a clorestoral med to protect my heart, but i declined. i have bad reactions to so many common meds, it's not worth it to me, to gain 20 lbs just to find out that a med makes me sick.....

hello folks!

Having stayed off sugar and sugary drinks for 24 hours I feel better and my body doesn't hurt so much.I saw the diabetic nurse, she says I MUST stay off sugar and bring my blood sugar readings down to single figures. She said I also need to lose weight.I will see her again for a progress report July 10th.I am to have three monthly reviews while my sugars are uncontrolled and high.

After the nurse I saw the doctor asking for anti virals cos I have a virus infection, doctor says they don't prescribe anti virals cos they are usually ineffective. She said if I have a non specific virus infection the symptoms are worst because my diabetes is uncontrolled and my blood sugar is high. She said get your blood sugars down and the virus infection symptoms will die down too.I said while I am here can you tell me if it is my kidneys or liver that came back with an abnormal result, she said it was my liver,I have already been diagnosed with fatty liver so I need to lose weight and cut out fat to deal with that.

All in all I had a better day today.I know I can be in control of what I eat and hence in control of my own health.I want to be well and it is in my own hands and I have the power to either eat foods that are slow poison or eat foods good for my health.I think to keep my kidneys and extremities and eye sight well I have to completely give up sugar.

Good job Marilyn. When it's not too hot maybe you could experiment with herbal teas though not the iced bottled kind. Lemon Tea is nice and Peppermint Tea is too. Licorice tea is also quite lovely. Drinking fluids does not have to be boring at all.
Yesterday I tried to get an ex-ray of my mouth taken. I waited for as long as I could but my carer had another job she had to be at. Not sure how long this worker is going to last.

Today I went to a different place on the way home from picking up the antibiotics but it was peak hour and could not get a park at all. I am rinsing my mouth with warm salty water.

Possum I hope the problems with your mouth are resolved soon.
It sounds painful.
I will enjoy trying out all the different herb teas.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi guys,
Just getting back from the beach. It was just beautiful weather and I started a great book! Gus how's the new med working out for you?
We have an appointment coming up with the oncologist. His stage is kind of iffy on what the treatment will be.

Possum I hope your mouth is feeling better.

Marilyn I know you will get your sugar under control. Just one foot in front of the other.

Thanks Deejay, I just did my online shopping basket to order food for next week,no usual chocolate cake, chocolate or sugary treats, just pulses, cereal, vegetables, fruit, soya milk.
I am avoiding sauces with my meals too.It is difficult cos all processed foods have sugar and I have to buy some cos can't cook every meal I don't have the strength or energy.

The beach sounds lovely...how I would love to be able to go to the seaside, live there even.

I hope your husband's next stage of treatment goes well Deejay.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for asking friends. My second lot of antibiotics will finish tomorrow and my mouth is not sore. I wonder though if it isn't an infected tooth but something going on with my sinuses. I am going to get the ex-ray done Monday. Hopefully third time is a charm and that it will happen.

I went and had my eyes checked this week. Was pleased to know that things are pretty much the same despite my being a year over due for the appointment - where does the time go - and there is no change in eye pressure or developing cataracts/glaucoma. (Family history there).

Beaches are nice Deejay hope you were able to blow some cobwebs out.

Good thinking about online shopping Marilyn. Takes temptation out of the equation.

It's cold here and my nose is like a dogs cold and wet. Today's exercise will be house work and maybe some garden work - that's is if there is no rain.
Thanks for this!
