It's gone crazy again and I have binged.I gave up trying to get it down only one more day and I see the diabetic nurse for medication change, hopefully that will sort me out.I am not succeeding with the New year diet so far!

I just measured and it's 500,my fault,I ate chocolate and drank soda pop!My eating is out of control I am afraid.

Me too. i will be too strict for too long, then i go wild. I think i need to not be so strict, or at least have more variation. I am not a bad cook, i need to use my skills.

I did not know that 7 was the highest acceptable point Guiness. Thanks for the input.

I find myself with the same dilemma Marilyn. I know what I should be doing but I don't to it. I am wondering if my going to some local weight loss group might be the answer. Not so much for the weight loss but more for the accountability of being weighed and being with like minded people who are talking about healthy eating. Plus there is the social factor too. Then again there is the cost factor.

What are your thoughts on that Marilyn? Would you?

Possum,I found the weight loss classes that I went to helpful, they steer you in the right direction on what to be eating and what to avoid to lose weight, being weighed regular is an incentive to keep on the diet .If you can keep up the diet when the classes end that is a big bonus. The classes I went to were free so I just had to find my cab fare there and back, the doctors provide the classes free.

I haven't been measuring blood sugars last two days, they were so high though last time I measured.I am going to see the diabetic nurse today, she is going to give me new diabetic medication to try,so hopefully, with the new medications and watching what I put in my mouth from here on in,I will get blood sugar down to normal levels.

I saw the diabetic nurse today.Things have to be brought under control as my kidneys and liver are at risk.I am being referred to the diabetic nutritionist at the hospital. The nurse today offered me drugs, one was a weight loss injection and the other excretes sugar through the urine, both are heavy duty and have bad side effects. So I won't take them.I am to lose weight on my own and get blood sugars down by controlling what I put in my mouth and exercising.I am to try for a month then see the nurse again and keep seeing her once a month to stay on track we have got to get my HbA1c down by half,it is 14,it should be 7.Nurse says mine is the highest she has ever seen.My blood sugars are 459 again tonight. But last night I drank soda and pop again and for dinner today I had fish and chips,so tomorrow I will get serious about having healthy meals and no soda, juices just plain water.I have the knowledge to do this diet, lose weight and exercise,I will do it.I gave away my left over Christmas chocolate so I don't have temptation in the house.I will let you know this time tomorrow,4.39pm GMT if my sugars have come down.I am going to be posting here regularly for the foreseeable future and in the weight and diet thread.

Good luck Marilyn, you can do it. Why did she not put you on injectable insulin?

I was on insulin before,my appetite was ravenous,I gobbled food down for England,I gained 3 stones and my blood sugars were higher than ever,I also got womb cancer. So insulin doesn't help me.It is just a vicious cycle with me insulin is.I don't know if it gave me cancer either?

I'm glad I'm not on insulin. I couldn't do it. I hate checking my blood sugar (when I do). As I don't do it as often as I should.

Well my blood sugars came down from 469 to 325 last night before bed.I had peanut butter and apple last night before bed,to stop the liver dumping glucose into my bloodstream overnight. At 4.15am this morning it came down to 253.I had apple cider vinegar last night too. That lowers blood sugars too.It is better this morning but still over double what it should be,but it is a good start as the day before yesterday it was 540.So I think I am off to a good start.I am recording quite a few times a day and keeping a dieting diary and sugar control diary.I feel much better and the sugar cravings have gone.

White flour products make blood sugars spike,I have to avoid white bread,it has made my blood sugar go up to 360 tonight,I had some for lunch with soup.I know I haven't had any sugar today so it can only be the white flour that is at fault. All in all I ate healthier today.

I think my metformin was doing me in. I've been feeling under the weather. Its contraindicated with one of my other meds (topamax) - i think this is why i stopped taking it before when i was taking it, several years ago. I didnt take it yesterday, after decreasing it from 1000 mg to 500 for a couple of days, and im already feeling much better. Like im waking up and feeling ALIVE, like a new woman!

Must be lovely to wake up with a spring in your step unaluna.

Hiya all,I asked the nurse today if I could increase my dose of metformin and gliclazide to six a day instead of 4.She said no,cos I am on the maximum dose at 4 of each a day already, any more and it could damage my liver and kidneys. She said to look into halving my intake of bread and potatoes and replacing them with alternatives. So I will do that.

After lunch today my reading is 289.So it has come down again from 360,but is still too high.I am having soup for dinner with a slice of bread.Let's see what the reading is later on tonight.

For the life of me I cannot understand how you can control this with diet alone. Metformin and glucatrol aren't working. I am shocked she did not put you on insulin. I wish you the best of luck though.

Guiness,I have explained I can't go onto insulin,I was on it before and it made my appetite ravenous and I gained 19 kilos, which is 42 pounds and I would have gained more if I hadn't stopped it.I also think it caused my womb cancer. It is possible just with diet and the medications that I am on,I have done it before.

Just worried about you. You should be no higher than 180 after you eat and waking up around 100.
