Definitely take the meter back to where you got it from. Might be as simple as a dodgy battery. High blood sugars make me incredibly tired and emotional. Blurry vision is tending to drop in more now but I am not sure if its due to high sugar levels or if I have been switching from too many things like knitting, computer, reading and my eyes just get tired. Need to get my eyes checked again. Every six months is a pain but that is due to a combination of diabetes and the psych meds too. The thought of going blind is beyond scary.

Do you have the blood test done where they can average it back over the last three of four months? I find that reassuring because my doctor is happy with that and I like it too.

Yes the gp is fairly good at remember to do the A1c. It's not bad, but my sugars seem to spike in the morning. I finally got the meter going, maybe a few bad strips I used. My sugars were almost right on tonight. I've been living off peanut butter, coffee, eggs, some veggies and cutting out most carbs. Except potatoes, love em. Thanks guys.

Ive been having a navel orange (or two!) first thing in the morning, with my coffee, as sort of a pre-breakfast. Idk why, ive just been craving it. I havent had a slice of bread in almost a week. That is pretty much an historical miracle! I do have oatmeal every day, tho. The scale showed a measurable decrease this morning, finally. Im doing weight watchers. Usually im not strict enough on it and i dont lose. But this week ive been very strict, but also havent overeaten nor undereaten, that is, not let myself get too hungry, which afterwards i usually would eat too much. Its hard work!

Good for you unaluna. Hope you can stick with it.

You have a good time in the kitchen by the sounds of it Gus.

I wonder what the sugar content is in the peanut butter disparaissant? Peanut butter is not supposed to be that bad for diabetes. Wonder if something else is the culprit in the mornings.

Thanks, gus! I moved my weight watchers weigh in day to tuesdays, because i usually take my diuretic on mondays. So i will see my first week results tomorrow. So far it looks like at least 2 lbs down, but i have been gaining like crazy before this. I blame peanut butter - i dont care for the "natural" kind. And bread. And cookies. And ice cream. And Sanders bumpy cake now coming in single serving size!

Weight watchers used to recommend a "zero point" soup that was basically a cabbage soup. Theyve changed the rules now so a veggie soup can have beans or lentils, or chicken or turkey breast, or tofu in it, and still be "free". Which means a light home made chili can be free! I made a pot last night, had some for breakfast this morning, will freeze a bunch!
Thanks for this!

i will tell you, unaluna~ if you don't put enough broth in your soup, you get stew~! now that summer is coming on,, i won't even cook my veggies; i'll even eat taters raw, they are much more filling that way, might be the crunch factor.

my fav bread, a coarse ground multi-grain, called Ecci Panis Boullet (easter bread round loaf), has gotten so pricey that i'm eating other kinds of bread out of the stale bread bin. this has definitely reduced my bread carbs~! also, i am making my corn bread from corn meal, no wheat, and very little sugar, so it's about half the calories as those packaged mixes. i must have my carbs and meat proteins, i just can't seem to get by without them. but i do eat a lot of beans, mostly home-cooked, no sugar, so that's good. (beans will stay good a long time in a very cold fridge.)

i have never been able to lose weight without help, acupuncture worked, and an anti-fungal med. i just don't move around enough. (i'm on high levels of supplemental oxygen and have to haul a tank around every time i leave the house.) so, i just live with being obese, and wish....

good luck to all you weight losers~!

I know. A lemon meringue pie jumped in my shopping cart yesterday. That ended up being dinner. I did leave half the crust. If my day is all out running around, i dont eat right. I need to work on that.

I am just as guilty as the rest. I went out and had BBQ last night. Sugars through the roof I had to take a ton of insulin.

i think it's rude and cruel, that the higher my blood sugars, the hungrier i feel~!
i decided that it's because all the nutrients are in my blood and it's my muscles and organs that think they are starving~ O.O

i found another protein to put in my salads (i don't care for beans, thanks): fish~! i like that 'mock crab' and i found next to it 'mock lobster'. they are really cheap, since they are Alaskan whitefish with some crustacean drizzled over it. it certainly does make for a nice balance; tho if i'm desperate for some carbs, a few Ritz crackers or a half piece of my multi-grain bread are just the thing. i wish we had bread sticks here in the market, but maybe i'm glad they don't~!

i see a new doc tomorrow, i hope hope hope she's good, she's actually a RPN or something, but she's been practicing in this community for 20 yrs, and has a very good reputation. i would love to have a doc who's both good and kind~

I am going to a diabetes educator tomorrow. Weird thing is, I was having spikes in the morning, high bs levels, and I've been checking regularly and they are much better. Even though I'm also guilty of indulging in sweets at night. I don't understand. If I eat almsot nothing at bedtime my sugars are high in the morning. I'm very confused. Hopefully this educator can explain why snacking on carbs at night, including a fair bit of sugar, makes my sugar level much better in the morning.
I'm also trying to eat more often during the day and less at a time, so I think that has helped a lot.

Reading about the possibility of going blind has scared me into straightening up my bad habits of eating half a box of cookies sometimes. My aunt has diabetes and has lost a lot of her vision. I don't know why it hasn't started to scare me until now, but it is. I still need to see an optometrist, I keep forgetting. my best to you all, am thankful for this thread!

Thanks guys. I'm trying to type on a cellphone and I'll write more later. Basically the reason why my sugars are spiking in the morning is... believe it or not... having been eating enough! I'm not taking in enough carbs so my liver is being worked too hard and producing sugar. I couod never understand how the whole process works but I'll try and explain better later.
