Is it even possible to be able to have something even resembling a chronological timeline of my life??
And is it too much to ask about my childhood, to try and fill in some of the gaps?
For instance, ever since the anniversary nearly 2 weeks ago, I've had some "revelations" involving the stuff recovered and the 8th birthday. Or so I think. It seems too much to be a "coincidence". But I asked my mom if I had gotten sick on my 6th or 7th birthdays, and she said she had no idea, why was I even asking such a ridiculous question? Umm..mom I don't REMEMBER, so forgive me for attempting to get some answers...

But it's not just the birthdays. I feel like I can't remember anything...like my "assumptions" about my ability to remember have been shattered. Like I always believed I remembered the most about age 6, but when I look back, I remember about 4 days of school and only flashes of being home. Don't even ask about memories before school, because I couldn't tell you what age they were.

Anyone else just wish there was some reliable way to get a timeline? To figure out what age you are in memories?

Sorry for the post, I'm just really confused....

It would make sense for us to have a real time line like AKA normal people. But the simple fact that we are splintered souls means that the only way that we could have survived what we did was to devide the trauma into parts means that our whole life is devided into groups. Its made even harder for us to know for sure the reality of our lives.
~~~
We finely accept that we have two types of memiors. One is spiritual memoirs these are the memoirs that alters have that do not coincide with our physcal life with those around us. Physcal memoirs are those that at times we can find someone in the real world that is able to confirm it.
~~
We also are dealing with alters that have their own life. When we were reintergrated in the past it was with the help of those around us learning that it was safe to share our memoirs. But we have a group of people that clame that we do things but are not willing or able to prove their clames. Or at least admite to the public that what happen was forced abuse.
~
So give those with in some space and understand that we are this way because it was the only way to survive what happened to us as child and maybe even into aduilt hood.
~
The biggest gift that we can give to our selfs is to accept and understand we do not have to prove our selves for the simple fact is that we lived it. Sending safe hugs and thought from all of us to all of you!
I understand your confusion I didnt remember anything of my life before about age 9 nothing nada..I still even wiwth help from alters have alot of gaps not just before age 9 but after as well just years of nothingness I know how fustrating it ccan be in my life now I have one of the worst memory brains going!! I am 25 and already seem to have serious memory recall issues of stuff that happened a few minutes ago.. I guess my best advice is I know how you can get stuck in the fact you cant remember and you feel like you need to fill it in but I seriously would encourage you to keep working on your present life you may never have all the answers and I know how hard that is to accept but sometimes things come in their own time and pushing them to be revealed does more damage then good.. best of luck with your journey safe gentle hugs if you want them
yes it is possible to make a timeline of your life. when I first came here I noticed a huge resources thread that has a list of all kinds of books. in there theres a few books that explains how to go about making sense of your life if you are DID and how to make a time line of your life. I cant remember what the titles other than Amongst ourselves. I forget who the author is but its somewhere in the list so its pretty easy to locate.
you can also make time lines of your life by using photographs. just put them in order of possible ages then write about what you remember about the taking of those photos. the more I did that the more that came back to me.
Time in general is very difficult for me and yesterday and 2 years ago seems the same to me. Maybe your T can help you make a time line by writing down events and time periods as you guys talk about things?
If you have pictures of your childhood, like AmandaLouise said, that might help. I only have a couple pictures of myself as a child so I haven't tried it, but it seems like if you can recognize yourself in the pictures and relate them to events, maybe that would help?
Sorry I'm not much help, but I wanted to say that you are not alone. Best of luck to you on your journey.
