I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with migraine variant acephalgic migraine. This is essentially a migraine without the headache, and instead has more bodily symptoms including such as vision problems and weakness in limbs. I have suffered from migraines for most my life, as I'm sure most of you have, and also have nocturnal migraines (that start in the night in sleep). I have had random sets of bodily issues again for years, and only after the birth of last baby have finally gone to get thoroughly sorted out. After many tests inc MRI and multiple blood tests and neurology tests, the diagnosis of migraine variant was given. Just out of curiosity, knowing that many DID'ers are also migraineurs, does anyone else also have a migraine variant dx?
Just to clarify, these symptomologies associated with the migraine variant are different to body memory stuff.
Thank you for your input,
kp

Hi kp. We have not been diagnosed with this, although we do suffer from migraines. Is the diagnosis helpful? Does it give the doctor a way to treat the symptoms better? We really hope so! ~Julia & Gretta

About twenty years ago I had visual changes and saw an ophthalmologist and he told me it was migraine without the headache. As I got older I began to experience pain and nausea following the visual changes. I now take verapamil prophylactically and seldom have migraine symptoms in any form. A couple of years ago I began to have intermittent aphasia but EEG and MRI are normal so it is possible that that is related to the migraines too. (not a DID person AFAIK)

I have had migraines without headache but at first I didn't know it was a migraine till I explained to someone what was happening. When I learned that the reason I couldn't see was not life threatening but merely a blocking of the light I was relieved but I was always curious as to why there was not headache. If I went to sleep it helped considerably. I have since learned that the headaches can be part of DID and can coincide with a change from one alter to another and for other reasons. I don't remember having an eeg or mri for this but it may be something to look into. Thanks

Yeh, I have them. I have not been formally diagnosed but when I talked to Pdoc about the symptoms my Dr couldn't figure out (thought maybe they were scary med side effects) she said I had migraines without headaches and stomach migraines.
I am getting better at knowing and avoiding my triggers and use a lot of homeopathic stuff to deal with them seeing as I am technically undiagnosed and my insurance is currently non-existent.

I use:
rescue remedy (bach flower remedies) that I can't intellectually seem to believe in but it helps.
M-Grain which is a young living essential oil blend. It is very expensive but you don't use much (I put it in a defuser/oil warmer). There are also politics against young living but I have not found another brand of oil for hedaches/migraines that compares... even if there is not headache.
For me a higher protein diet seems to have helped.
Pdoc says when you get one your stomach shuts down so trying to eat doesn't usually work. Which I have found to be true... couldn't figure out why I kept getting sick!
My weighted blanket helps but that may just be because most of mine are stress induced and my blanket helps reduce stress.
If you are really open minded I have found that aquamarine helps (yep, the rock).
