I went to therapy and had a bad session. I am still not my self. I have tried grounding techniques but nothing. My head hurts and my thoughts are foggy. I feel shaky and confused. My head hurts a lot. Has anyone had this happen? Could someone explain or suggest other grounding techniques. I am trying to get back to myself.

I'm so sorry clarity, therapy sessions can be so triggering sometimes, have you tried to speak to your t about how you felt after the session?
Some things I use when I'm in a fog, whatever part of me I feel like is disconnecting I will lightly scratch that area to gain feeling again and try and get my mind to stick with my body. My t also taught me a good grounding technique a couple years back. You say out loud 5 things you can see, then you say out loud 4 things you can touch. Then you say 3 things you can hear, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste. It brings back all of your senses and helps snap you back into the world. I hope you are feeling better now!!!

Sorry to hear that you were triggered during your session, Claritytoo. It's happened to me, too, though I always seem to switch when I walk into the parking lot or when I get into my car. In the first few months of sessions, it would happen nearly every time as I left my T's office, twice a week, for weeks on end. If you're current T doesn't work out, will she be able to recommend you to someone with more experience helping people in your situation?
p.s. That's a great grounding technique, PurpleFlyingMonkeys. The 5,4,3,2,1 of it is very smart. One of the easiest ones that works for me more often than you might think is counting back from 100 by 5's. I usually only have to do it once and I feel better and it keeps me from sliding too far out of focus but if I'm having a rough time and I can't remember any other ones, I'll keep doing it until I feel better. |

I'm sorry Clairitytoo I think when you see yourself as having a bad session that means to me that you must have done some Great work an most likely took many steps forward. So when you feel your going backwards remember the steps forward you took.
Healing is completely hard work... yet way to go, btw! Crew
