ok I think this is strange to me at least. I have an alter named Aristotle, who has to wear glasses. Have not even thought too mention it too my pdoc probably because he has never come out during therapy. To me it makes not a whole lot of sense because seeing is a physical thing so I would think I would have to wear glasses almost all the time. I don't know, I think it is strange.

I don't think it's strange in the least bit. We've worn glasses most of our life. ( can't tell you how old we were when we started wearing them, was pretty little, don't have that piece of memory) But we have some that go without wearing the glasses and do fine. If I don't have the glasses on I can't find the door.

My alters that are really young don't need glasses, but the older ones need them and so do I.

Thank you Monty. I know when he is done with them I can tell because they will make my eyes hurt. Guess the good thing is it gives him a physical appearance that others can see where as if it is strictly a personality it is not always known. Make sense?

I have memory pieces that contain the memory of wearing glasses as a child too. Here in this house there is about 6-8 different pairs of glasses all different strengths.

Yes needing glasses is a physical need BUT alters are pieces of memories. within that memory contains how you were at the time that memory was separated and stored at the unconscious level - the heart rate, breathing rate, whether or not you wore glasses, what your eye sight was and so on.

When the brain matches a trigger from the present to a piece of memory that memory replays. If the memory is stored at the unconscious level then that memory is also acted out.

So for example I am sitting in the eye doctors and get triggered by getting eyedrops to the point where I imagine myself out of the situation. My brain matches that trigger (getting eye drops) to a piece of memory of my getting eyedrops as a child. My brain then switches all my body funtions to that memory content - that heart rate, that breathing rate, that vision level. The doctor sees no difference in my behavior because the memory is that of being in the eye doctors getting the eyes checked and the doctor continues and completes the exam, and writes up a prescription for lens's for the strength that I tested for - that of the memory. In the mean time the trigger (getting eye drops) is done, the stinging is gone. With no trigger in place I am immediately calmed and am once again aware sitting in a chair with a receptionist who is ordering my glasses. Im none the wiser because losing time is normal for me because it has been happening all my life so becoming aware in a different room and chair does not bother me. I pick out the frames and on home I go. Just another same old same old type day. It isn't until the glasses come in that I realize somethings not right because when adjusting the frames to my face my vision is blurry with the glasses on. Chalk it up to sometimes it takes time to adjust to new prescriptions (and the fact that I dont disclose to people very often that I have DID) I finish getting fitted and head on home and put the new glasses on the table, knowing sooner or later I will get triggered into whatever pieces of memorys that contain that vision strength information.

That's the great thing about PC. There is usually someone here who can relate to what you are going through and at different stages of "self-development". Sharing experiences and just to know you are not alone can do wonders for those "moments".

Hugs,
SongBird

((((((((((((((cherybery)))))))))))))))))

you're not strange at all. Once we failed a driver's exam, had to get glasses that are never used and never failed again! Only one part of me needs the glasses. My license was restricted for wearing glasses and everything for four years.

even though there's been integration here, i just keep them in my purse and available...

be safe,

kd
