I have DDNOS (Disociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) I have been losing a lot of time lately and not remembering conversations and other things I've done. My sister and a couple friends know what I'm going through and will understand when I say I don't remember, but today someone I don't know that well realized I was a little confused and asked if I didn't remember our conversation the other day and I had to say no, now she thinks I just wasn't paying attention to her and I'm not sure if I should explain what happened or not, I don't want her to think I don't like her or that I'm "weird" or something..... not sure if anyone can help, just kinda needed to get it out I guess....

I can relate sugarlizard

I don't know if sharing your Dissociative Disorder with those that you aren't close to is necessary. Personally, I think that the illness is widely unrecognized in society. Illnesses that general public doesn't understand typically doesn't get a lot of sympathy or compassion. Instead, people jump to dramatic conclusions about what your life is like.

The decision is up to you. We could always use general education out there in society. You can use this opportunity to teach them, if you have a pretty good understanding of it yourself. No matter what decision you make, I'll support you. Best wishes to you!

I just apologize and tell people that I am under a lot of stress. They are usually ok with that. Most when they start to repeat the topic I can remember enough to get by.

only you know whether or not you should share your medical and mental health problems with strangers/family or friends.

for me I do not tell strangers or people I dont know very well what my problems are. I do though tell my family and friends and a few co workers that are part of my daily life and may need to know that information in an emergency.

as for not remembering things strangers and those I just met say to me... I don't bother trying to explain it..... its completely normal for even normal people not to remember every single conversation they have from day to day.
Thanks for this!
