I think split personality or dissociative disorder can exist without the amnesia or names. For example I think a person can have different personalities in a dissociative state without separation from the main personality or amnesia. So they dont become Jane, Lisa or Jessie but remain as Sandra but have the sub personalities of the above (example). Sandra also doesnt have amnesia but is usually unaware that she is exhibiting sub personalities and thinks its aspects of herself. Does this make sense? I think it does. Im interested in mental health research, and Im working on my brain fog, but its a way of coping, not a good way, but the only option. I wouldnt wish this on anyone but I feel very uspet and annoyed at some "people" who dont care and I think they have no humanity.

Example here in the United States of America the term ....Dissociative Disorder....is a cover all term for the group name or category.... like the term "hisotry class" is a cover name /category for a bunch of classes called geography, anthropology, social studies, .... here in the United States of America there are many mental disorders in this group/ category called dissociative disorder.. depersonalization disorder derealization disorder dissociative Amnesia disorder dissociative fugue disorder Dissociative Disorders Not Otherwise Specified Dissociative Identity Disorder (Im speaking only for those mental disorders that the USA recognize as dissociative disorders, other countries/locations may have other disorders also listed in this group of mental disorders called Dissociative Disorders) here in USA the term split personality ....used to be used to describe whats now called Dissociative Identity Disorder.. if this is how you are using the term here in the USA we have an agency called the American Psychiatric Association. they write a book called the DSM. in this book they put whats called diagnostic criteria.. one of the diagnostic criteria of the presently used DSM is that a person with DID must have a special type of memory problems (a type of amnesia where they have problems not remembering spaces of time and trouble remembering things that go beyond the normal forms of forgetfulness.) heres a link where you can read about what america goes by.for what DID is at the present moment. these diagnostics will soon be changing sometime around may 2013..http://behavenet.com/dissociative-identity-disorder not all dissociative disorders require the person to have amnesia and separation of their personalities like DID does. for example the dissociative disorder of depersonalization (speaking only for the diagnostics here in america) does not require a person to have memory problems/amnesia nor does it require a person to have separation of personality neither does derealization disorder. long post short Imnot sure of what you mean by your terms dissociative disorder, split personality is it the same as what the USA goes by? your location may be different than here so you might want to check with treatment providers in your location, they can tell you what dissociative disorders there are where you are, and which ones have the diagnostics requiring amnesia and a separation of personality/identity. we do have something called ego states, and introjects and other types of altered states of mind where the person doesnt necessarily switches into separated personalities with names.. my own personal belief goes according to what the America Psychaitric association put for diagnosing dissociative disorders and DID here in america. I also believe bottom line is each person with DID or any other mental disorder has their own way in which the disorder presents/shows itself and each person has their own co consciousness (remaining aware" abilities for example I rarely stayed aware and my alters did have names. but I do know someone who had alters and only two of those were the kind that fit the american diagnostic criteria of memory problems / separation of personality into named alters and the rest of the time she was what is called co conscious where she remained aware while these other states of mind were out and there were some states where they rarely came out she just felt their presence. some were named and some were not. and I do know some people who had a different than DID type of alters called ego states where there was no separation with this person and her ego states and she did not have any memory time loss/amnesia |

I have a friend who have a few different personalities that are very different from each other. He is a lovely person, or at least his talkative part is, he has a silent part that is hard to talk to since I can only talk to a talker. LOL.
His parts are distinct in many ways. He can stay in that part for a long time sometimes. He has zero amnesia. He is aware of himselves. He used to be DX DDNOS which made a lot of sense since some amnesia is needed for the diagnosis of DID. But they changed him to DID and he was surprised and so was I. I have never met a he that he didn't remember. It might exist but there has not been a mentioning it from the staff. So while I still would say this is DDNOS, it can be DID in some cases. I don't understand how though. |
