Today i had my session with a stand in p'doc while mine is away. She said she wouldn't deal with the alt unless I was there as well. Is it possible to have the alt out as well me? To my mind you either get one or the other you cant have both. I get shoved away and one or more alts come out depending on what is being said. I get to come back when the topic is neutral/general.

What do other people experience?

an alter and host being aware (your term out) at the same time is called co consciousness....

yes for some people it is possible for others it isnt.. it takes time to develop co consciousness for some a short time for others years....

most people start developing co consciousness by doing things like journaling/writing to their alters/ talking inside to their alters/ listening to hear what their alters are saying/ encouraging the alter to write back to them by leaving notes, journal entries and things the alter will enjoy around the house.

using grounding for some people is also key to developing co consciousness because by varying the amount of grounding can sometimes make it so that the host and alter be aware at the same time...

Thanks for your reply amandalouise. I had never thought about writing or talking to my alters as a means of learning co consciousness. I have had chats at odd times and not much recently.

Does being co conscious help a person to get better? The alt that has been out lately is rude and loud and unsettling. He is set off by a hair trigger. He always stays out for a while. I don't like that he stays out and then hangs around.

for some people having co consciousness does help in the process and for others it doesnt. co consciousness in not a necessity for healing. i was not co conscious with a majority of my alters. co consciousness was not in the cards for me and most of my alters.

that doesnt mean I wasnt able to work on my problems that came from my having DID. my treatment providers and I just had to go about it a different way. instead of working from the point of co consciousness because I did not have that ability we worked on things like grounding, work on what memories I did have and other daily living problems that DID caused me.. this in turn made it possible for me to heal... as I became stronger the alters who were doing the jobs I could now do merged with me because they no longer needed to do those things for me.

your alters will continue to come out as long as they are needed to do what ever jobs, purposes, reasons for being that they were created to do..

one way to work on things with out co consciousness is pay attention to when this alter comes out, figure out why you dissociated at that moment, the action of you dissociating is what causes alters to come out. find out why you dissociated at that moment and you will know what you need to do to heal even without being co conscious.

My normal p'doc is away until mid April. This stand in p'doc said she doesn't want to do things behind my back. I think this one at the moment is extremely defensive/protective. I doubt it will co-operate. This new p'doc was fully qualified as a p'doc in Nov last year.

I get the impression people see me as sensitive and caring. This other part is insensitive and doesn't give a **** about others. Even as I type I feel that it is rotten to the core. I am scared of the fall out that will be left in its wake. I really don't like what I can see. My chest hurts just thinking about it.

The kids just fall in line..........
