Hi! I have quite a psych history. I have asked my therapist about this but she kind of ignored it. First some history.

I was sexually, verbally and emotionally abused pretty much my whole life. Unlike other people i don't remember much at all of my child hood. Today i do dissociate kind of go down a tunnel and lose time. Usually minutes. But i KNOW there is another person in my head. I could totally describe her. And i think she knows my whole chkldhood.

My question is which dissociative disorder is this? If she (Anna) came out when i was little i don't think she comes out now. Any ideas?

Oh i have been diagnosed with OCD personality disorder. Depression with psychosis. Conversion disorder. Ptsd and generalised anxiety disorder. (I am only being treated for the last two right now)

Im sorry but we can not make a diagnosis of your problems all we can do is tell you what those symptoms were/are with in ourselves...

those same symptoms you wrote about were called many different things by my treatment providers depending upon accompanying symptoms..such as anemia, sleep deprivation, Multiple Sclerosis, bipolar disorder, eating disorder, anxiety panic disorder, psychosis, OCD, depression, PTSD, dissociation, depersonalization, derealization, DID, dissociative dissociative amnesia, introjects (which is a type of alter that is not a dissociative type alter) ego state (again different then having DID type alters) and many others too..

to find out what these symptoms are with in you, you will need to talk with your therapist or a psychiatrist for diagnostics processing.

Thank you!! I didn't mean to put you in such a tight spot! i know people can't diagnose eachother over the internet.

I just am not sure how to ask my question. Does it sound like possible DID? If that makes sense. My therapist doesn't want to add another label on me... i feel like i explained things better in my intro post. I wasn't as hurried as earlier. I apologise if i broke a forum rule. I do realise everyones not a doctor. I just don't know where to go with this stuff in my head since my therapist shut thd topic down.

yes it makes sense but again my best advice I can tell you is go according to what your own treatment providers say..

Im sorry your therapist doesnt want to put a label on you and you want to be labeled what ever is happening.. but you know what....labels are not really that important. the labels are just there for things like insurance companies need to have a diagnostic number in order to pay your treatment providers for their services and other things like that...

kind of like going into a grocery store and all the can goods have bar codes so that the cashier can tally up all the items and know how much you owe them..very few people actually know what those bar code numbers are...I dont know what each of those numbers on my can of tuna are called..are they the weight or are they the town where the tuna was caught are they the kind of tuna what ever I have no idea... I just buy it because I like the taste of tuna..

you dont necessarily need to know a label in order to get better. a person enters therapy with a problem/a symptom...the problem/symptoms are all those things you wrote about. now that you know you have these problems/symptoms you can get better regardless of whether the changes in personality/moods are called DID, PTSD, Anxiety, schizophrenia, depression...

therapists work with symptoms.. in other words they will help you find ways to fix all those things you wrote about.

Example I have Multiple Sclerosis. I have had all the symptoms for years like numbness, tingling, memory problems, dizzyness, and others. I didnt know what it was called and my treatment providers were hesitant to put a direct label on it because all those symptoms I was having could have been so many other things too. So for years we worked on symptoms. this enabled us to narrow down whether I had Parkensons or MS or whether those symptoms were medications and other things.

we worked on symptoms and found some things that worked and some things that didnt and as the field of labels got narrowed down my treatment providers were more able to say what the name of what I had was.

if we hadnt worked on symptoms first and got the label for parkensons well I could have been worse off than I am now.

sometimes when treatment providers are reluctant to hand out labels like candy and work on symptoms instead its because its the right thing to do.

with the symptoms you wrote about it doesnt matter whether your switches are called DID, PTSD, depression what ever all that really matters is that you and your therapist can still discover what is causing these switches and find ways to fix them. and then later on down the road as you have worked on your symptoms you will find out what helps and what doesnt. then your treamtent providers will be able to tell you a name for it.

Another thing to consider... some locations therapists are not the ones that are allowed to diagnose their clients. some locations only a psychiatrist can diagnose a mental disorder by doing a psychiatric evaluation. and some locations a psychiatric evaluation is only done inpatient, in a mental facility.

if you really feel you need to get a diagnosis you can talk with your therapist about what the process is like in your location..

here in my location diagnostics for DID the one diagnosis that contains the symptom of alternate personalities is done partially inpatient and includes observation, medical tests, mental health tests, releasing of past medical mental and academic records, and many other things too.
Thanks for this!

Yeah that makes sense. I don't need a label to work on it! I have already been working on it in my head to see if i can figure out more info for my T as I want to bring the subject up again. I hadn't thought of the possibility that she can't actually diagnose that. So my next psychiatrist apointment i will bring it up too. Thank you.

Sucks to have physical medical stuff along with mental health stuff too, espeacilly in ER! I have physical disabilities along with the psych dxs. And I have a service dog.
