Last night I had the worst body memory experience I have ever had. I couldn't control some of the things my body was doing. At one point I had to use my hands to keep from dislocating my jaw. It was like what I would imagine hell to be. I hadn't been feeling grounded for over a week. I had a bad session with my t. I was in a bad place. Like being inbetween what was real and not real. It was a very difficult experience physically and mentally. Today I feel exhausted and depressed. Almost numb emotionally. With all that I believe that what I experienced was a way for my body to release the memory of that trauma. I am not sure it won't happen again and that weighs on my mind. But I lived through it this time and if it happens again I will live through it again. Needed to get this out.

not sure what you mean... a dislocated jaw happens when the lower jaw is pulled or pushed out of the joint through chewing something that is too hard, or getting punched, hit, or pushing /pulling on it with your own hands...

basically what Im saying is that if you need to hold your jaw in to alignment so that it doesnt get dislocated well thats a physical/dental problem not a body memory problem. ....if this is what you mean I suggest contacting your dentist and other treatment providers to get the jaw X rayed and treated. there are excellent braces and other jaw aligning equipment that can hold your jaw in place until the muscles that hold the jaw into place can heal and do their job again..

a body memory problem with a past dislocated jaw would be feeling memory of the pain from the past dislocation, its not actually physically dislocating so it doesnt physically need to be held in place. it just feels like it needs this...if this is what you mean..what gives me comfort when feeling pain from past abuses/trauma's is lightly massaging the painful area. sometimes ice will trick my brain into realizing the pain is just a flashback (body memory), sometimes drinking warm tea's help me too.

So sorry you had to experience this Claritytoo. It is just awful. If you have any muscle soreness apply a heat pack on those muscles. If it happens when you are with your T ask them to help you move the part or your body if you are comfortable with it. Body memories can knock the strength out of your whole system. Try to rearrange your day so that you don't have much to do.

When things happen I try and dig my hands into the muscles to get control. At other times I ask the part inside what to they need or what do they want. Sometimes they say nothing. At other times they will tell me what they want or dont want and I can say something to them to comfort or reassure and amazingly the tension goes.

I so wish I could bring comfort to you.

Take care

Thank you for the advice. My body memories are exactly that. My body is acting out something that happened to us. I do not have a memory that accompanies the body memory. It is just my body acting out a bad experience. I did tell my body that we were safe, that we were not little any more and the place where we were in was safe. That seemed to help. I let the body memory happen until I thought I might get physically hurt. Than I had to forcibly stop myself while letting my body know we were safe and not little. At one point it came to mind that this is what hell must be like. My body was able to stop the memory with help from my mind. (if that makes any sense) I am not sure if that memory will return or if it is satisfied that we are safe now. I don't know if that experience processed the memory into being something of the past or not. It was a very difficult experience but part of me thinks it had to happen to address the memory and move forward. I don't know. Thanks again

body memories really, really suck!

i like the suggestions amandalouise gave about massaging the area gently (if it feels safe to do so), or using ice or heat ...... also doing other things that will help you to try and ground which I know you said you've had trouble doing lately

i hope you are feeling a little better today

Sometimes you make so much sense and other times I am dumbfounded by your absolute lack of insight.
MY mouth was open wider than is humanely possible because at some point in my LIFE my mouth was FORCED open WIDE so that someone could put something in it. My Body remembers and shared that horrific experience with me, only at one point during the sharing I was in so much pain and thought my jaw would dislocate. I had to use my hands to force my mouth to close. I Don't think a Dentist would be too interested in helping me out with that. Try rereading stuff before you respond. Maybe you will get a better understanding of what is being said.

Im so sorry youre going through this. Body memories are definitely terrible. I really hate them. Something that helps us when we go through them ( admittedly, not much helps) is to draw or color when theyre happening. It doesnt have to be a picture that makes any sense. But something we just use lots of red and black and purple, scribble, and try getting all those intense feelings out of us, and onto the paper-- sometimes it helps some.
I hope the body memories end quickly for you. Take care of yourself.
Thanks for this!

Thank you, I'll think about drawing if I have the other body memories.

that was exactly my point....by reading your post I wasnt sure whether you were going through an actual dislocation while remembering something or whether you were remembering something and ....thought ....your jaw was going to dislocate like it did in the past. So I addressed both issues.

Actually a dentist can help with this kind of thing. I cvant speak for your dentist but my dentist gave me a diagnosis of TMJ (temporo mandibular Joint disorder) this is when the jaw gives a person trouble due to past issues like past dislocations and other lower/upper jaw joint problems. I had to wear special equipment that held my jaws aligned so many hours a day. I also had to go through dental physical therapy to learn how to deal with what physically happened to my jaw during those body memories.

most people dont think about going to a dentist for things like this. to be honest I thought my therapist was a bit nuts when she suggested it..going to a dentist for feeling like my jaw was dislocating, while remembering the past.... but I went. and it helped so much.

thanks for the advice...I usually do re read a post many times (which I did with yours) before I tell someone Im confused by their post and ask for clarification.

I don't even know where to begin. But I will say thanks for trying to help. We are obviously not talking about the same thing and frankly I am not going to elaborate any further on my experience.
