I went to the doctor tuesday. Had a new doc. She was nice. Forgetful. She lost if scrip pad then her stethoscope. We got along well. But she had to look at my throat. This is where I got so very triggered. I can't have ANYONE or ANYTHING near my throat, period!!! She tired to look in my mouth, but everything she tired I gagged. Then she had to put her hands on my neck. Took everything in me to stay present and not jump up and kick and punch her. Have to go to another doctor tuesday for my enlarged thyroid. So freaking scared.

Plus they said my bl**dwork came back normal YET again. I know somethings wrong. My thyroid is enlarged and I've gain 50lbs over the last 3 years, 15lbs since may. I used to have to try to gain any weight, now I eat air and gain 15lbs. Just tired and frustrated.

{{{{{ Monty }}}}}} I'm sorry it was so hard. Going to the doctors is very triggering for me as well.

I hope they are able to figure out what is wrong.

Do you have someone to go to drs with you that may be able to help? I've done that when got triggered at docs before and had to go back. Friend was able to help see nothing bad happened either way be it dr or selves and catch the info given if I was not able to hear what was said.

I don't have anyone to go with me. Don't really have friends. My family is to far away to go with me. So I just deal alone. T is out of town for the holiday till the 27th. So.........

Oh Lisa, I am so sorry for what you are having to deal with . I so understand the throat thing. I can't even wear shirts that touch my throat even slightly snug. I often walk around with my hand in front of my throat, hand on chin, as protection.. from what, I'm not sure yet.

I wish D could go with you during this time. Is there any way you can schedule the appts when he has some time he can take? I know it's hard scheduling that though. Wish I was there.

Please know I'm thinking of you. Keep us posted. We care. I've got issues.......may trigger I've got issues.......may trigger I've got issues.......may trigger

When ever I am seeing a new doctor due to my regular doctor being busy, on vacation and so on I tell them right up front that I am a survivor of sexual abuse and I need to know what they are going to do before doing it.

Sometimes my regular doctor has new nurses and interns helping him out and he also does his part by letting them and the doctors covering for him know that I am very sensative to being touched for example My doctor knows I have DID.

Yesterday when I had my appointment he had a new nurse helping him because the regular one was busy with someone else at the moment. The minute my doctor started taking my vitals I started floating off. I could hear myself from my tunnel area start giggling from being ticklish and embarrassment. When the nurse came in for the internal part of the exam before we even started I heard him from my tunnel area as he explained to the nurse that - We have already hit a "ticklish phase" and he looked at me to make sure I was ok with his wording of my dissociating during exams and asked if I was ok to continue so I nodded letting him know that I was ok with his wording and could continue and told him I didn't know if I would still to be in and out of the "ticklish phase" or not. we continued and got the exam over with as fast as possible.

Maybe before new doctors and nurses touch you, you can do what my doctor office and I do - just let people know before the exam starts that I am a survivor of sexual abuse so I have many reactions to being touched so the best thing to do is to let me know what is going on ahead of time.

I also take a walkman and headphones and relaxing music including a relaxation visualization tape that my therapist and I made during sessions. I also carry with me a small bead pillow that one of my past therapists gave me for my relaxation and grounding tools. These have helped me though many doctor appointments ever the years. maybe the next time you go to a doctor you can take something that you can hold that will help to keep you calm.
