I'm looking at my life. I think I see a pattern of high stress times and doing things I normally wouldn't do. Did something once that was Totally opposite of me. It cost me a long-term relationship. Or I've made decisions that are much riskier than I normally am.
Have any of you noticed during high stress time an Alter takes over? |

short answer... for some people stress is the trigger for what causes their alters to take control for others no stress is not the trigger for what causes the alters to take control.... each persons internal system of alters is comprised in what ever ways that person needed to survive the horrific abuses they went through. did I notice during high stress times an alter would take over....sometimes yes sometimes no i didnt notice.... noticing things like when an alter takes over falls under the word ... co consciousness...thats when someone is aware their alter exists, can hear their voices, can be aware at the same time that alter is in control, know what their alters are doing/saying.... I had only limited co consciousness with my alters which means I rarely knew when one was in control as it was happening. with therapy I learned how to locate the triggers that caused my alters to take control (in other words what my alters jobs/purposes/reasons for being was) so I know I had alters that took control each with their own type of stress they handled for me because I was unable to handle those things. |

Thanks!
This has cost me so much in life!!! (and I'm not talking about money) I forgave the person who did this to me. But I think that just changed. |

"co consciousness" it's more looking at my life and decisions I made that didn't make since. Decisions that have had a very negative impact on my life. The neg. impact decisions started when I relocated and took on a very high-stress job. It's quite sad to see how this has affected my life. But it's also strong motivation to heal. |

anyone mental disordered or not can look back on their life, evaluate their decisions that they have made...we even have a name for this.... the 7 year itch , midlife crisis, and that wonderful word therapy. during each one of these phases in a persons life they look back on their life, decide whether they are happy where their life is at and the decisions that they have made in their life, make changes to their present so that their futures will be how and what they want it to be. this kind of thing is considered to be completely normal and everyone does it at some point. children do it when they turn 18 and see that they are now adults and can do what ever they want. they look back on their life so far and decide they didnt like some of the decisions their parents or the law has made for them and make changes. a person who is pregnant looks back on their life and whether they like their decisions they have made to this point and make changes for a better life with their self and their children someone who is getting married does this too, ... the list goes on about all the normal situations that involve looking back on ones life and not liking what they have chosen for their self back in the past. Examples of co consciousness with alters.... my hearing polly in my head my hearing words come out of my mouth and knowing its polly and what is happening. my being able to talk to my alters. watching what is going on but from the perspective of polly. feeling anxious but knowing that feeling is not mine its pollly that feel anxious. sitting in therapy and knowing Im the one in therapy but hearing or feeling what polly is saying or feeling in my head there are many different ways a person can be co conscious with their alters. co consciousness means you are connected to the alter so that you know its the alters voice, you know what the alter is doing, you know what the alter is saying/feeling/..and perceiving things as the alter is the one doing saying and deciding things. |

Stress is a common trigger for switching.
![]() It is for us at least - any kind of stress usually triggers either a violent response (Christine), a fearful reaction (Chris) or a feeling that leads an EP (Emotional Part) into control of the body. Cheers, Lana

Sorry Amandalouise I was trying to say I wasn't experiencing co consciousness and not looking at one's decision. I should have worded it better.
It was more a moment where things I couldn't explain before, and questioned, finally made sense. Yet each of these happened after major stress. These things were total opposite of how I am. I accepted it, tried to figure it out, but never really made any sense. Now they do. I talked to someone from my past whom I knew I could trust, would not judge and with his field I wouldn't have to explain what the condition was. He also knew I had a traumatic childhood. He was very supportive. He said he found me very confusing at times. One example he gave was how I felt towards something would change to the total opposite - even in the same day. He tried to figure it out, but never could and he's a very intelligent guy. Last edited by Ocean5; Jun 23, 2014 at 08:15 AM. |
