I can't help how I feel! One minute this attitude then the next another...like a person with a crowd mentality.

From fem to male, and then back. It like turns into a family argument sometimes!

One minute I'm a proponent of fem rights then the next I'm a champion for the male cause!

I take yoyo to a whole new level! First rapid switching in bipolar than switching through alters!

I've been doing this for years...nutz

What's your story? Do you switch instantly? Or does it takes awhile?

I'm an on and off switch. My male counter parts tend to be aggressive and want to carry a gun.

my switching was based upon triggers...what that meas is if there was something that upset me, caused me to feel dissociation symptoms (numb, spacy, foggy minded.....) An alter would take control. here where I live alters taking control is called switching.

the alter I would switch into was directly related to what that alters job, purpose, reason for being was...

example if I was having a pro female rights discussion with someone and the discussion became too heavy/heated/ to emotionally charged beyond what I could handle I would Switch (an alter would take control and handle the rest of the discussion for me) or if I was having a pro male discussion an alter who was for male rights would take control of that discussion.

Exactly what I mean! I've heard it can take awhile for others to change. I don't know. I just do. Sometimes I change on the fly. Sometimes I can be talking and enter a cloud and voice drifts off... I noticed I can be walking and the stride just changes.

I'm just trying to get feedback to relate about what I experience. Thanks for yours.

DID is the outcome of severe abuse during childhood. So if you are triggered you go back to that time and you may have formed a part to cope with that trauma so that it is hidden from you. Can't say I have heard of switching genders though. Whatever you did to cope is fine. True DID's in my opinion are not aware of their switching. Be well.

My skin was beat off of me by both "loving and nurturing" parents. I was the big disappointment. It didn't stop till I laughed at them in high school. I don't remember the evil times, but when it does....the pain...

So your saying I'm fake? Okay. Thanks. I'm aware. Sure I have my blank moments and missing timeline, but whatever. I never knew mental illness to have concrete boundaries.

Hi there. Sorry you felt invalidated / told off, whatever. I think I would have felt that way too.
I have had times of experiencing rapid switching like what you describe. I know a DID specialist who had been working nearly exclusively with DID clients for 20 years or so who was of the opinion that there were two kinds of switching types: one between very discrete alter states who would stay 'out' and in sole control for a discrete period of time, and the other operating as a rolodex kind of thing with alters switching in and out rapidly one after the other. I have experienced both, with different groups of alters who dealt with different traumas / aspects of life having different switching styles.
When my own system was under certain stressors we would often get stuck in the rapid switching mode where no one alter had control for any length of time and we switched fairly continuously. The DID specialist I worked with told me that it is not uncommon at all for DID systems to work like that, so while it may not have been the experience of some it seems you (and I) are not at all alone in that regard.
Hugs from:

I just noticed that you have ADHD. I also have this and have often wondered if the rapid switching was related to that. Just a thought.

maybe the word true DID's means something different in that persons location....here in the USA we have changed to a new standard of diagnostics....here those that have memory loss with things like switching are called DID and those that dont have memory loss is now called Other Specified Dissociative Disorder.

psych central doesnt allow for members to question the validity of other members diagnosis's so Saying the words.... true DID..... does not always mean a person is faking it or not here on psych central.... it may just be a language/vocabulary difference for some locations.

I've noticed that it can work into the ulta rapid switching cycles of bipolar. I'm a yoyo sometimes, laughing then crying then laughing again.
