I saw my neuro doc again yesterday. He's had me on a CPAP machine for a month now. It's helped with my breathing since I have a narrowed airway. But it's not helped me from feeling so tired. The doc dx'ed me yesterday with hypersomnia. Which is an overwhelming feeling of sleepiness even when you have enough sleep. I could sleep any time and anywhere. I have always been like that. The only time I can't sleep is when like the night after a hard T session and maybe a day or 2 after that. But other then that I do well to stay awake. My H thinks that it's due to my DID that I sleep so much. I was wondering if there is anyone else who sleeps a lot like I do? And has anyone heard that hypersomnia is related to DID? Just thinking out loud here.

Are your alters active while you are sleeping?

(So you think you spend more time sleeping than you actually do).

I'm wondering whether going to sleep might be the trigger for switching...

Dysthymia / depression can result in the desire to sleep all the time too...

Do you get much exercise?

I'm wondering about the exercise because exercise stimulates endorphins (the bodys natural opiates) which help one feel more awake...

I'm sorry I am no help on this one. I've never heard it but that certainly doesn't mean that there is not a correlation. Maybe you could aske your doc for some more info on it? I hope you find some answers.

Lisa,

I don't know about the DID, but Chronic Fatigue Syndrome makes you want to sleep a lot more than is normal.

Hugs,

Jan

i sleep alot too. i can sleep from 11pm to 12pm and then from 3-6 in the after noon. i can probably do longer if i did not force my self to get up. i am also on lexapro so i dontknow if that has anything to do with it or if DID does or if it is just the way i am.

Also be checked for narcolepsy. My mother has this, and in the prehistoric days of the 50's and 60's, they were unaware of this disorder and put her through a series of treatments and meds, until she drew the line at electroshock treatment. She kept seeking diagnosis until she met a neurologist who knew about this disorder. He did sleep tests and other tests, and diagnosed her. She is sleepy all the time because she never enters into the deep restful, restorative sleep that we require. It is not a common disorder, but is a possibility????

You probably do not know me as I have not posted alot, but I was wondering if you have trouble with the CPAP machine? I have been put on one and I have alot of trouble feeling safe with it as the band that goes around my head to hold the nose piece in place, feels like it is trapping me and holding me down. I do not feel I really sleep because of this. I never really calm down enough to fall into a sleep that is restful. I just wondered if you ever felt this or if it is just me.
