About two weeks ago I felt the most disconnected from reality I've ever been and it lasted an entire day.
When I woke up everything felt out of place, family members seemed fake and out of character. It felt like I was in a dream and I thought I would wake up in a different reality if I would fall asleep. I started panicking after a while because the dreamlike feeling got worse and I thought I would wake up any minute. I was disgusted by these feelings. Last week I noticed new types of episodes - I can randomly feel detached for a couple seconds or minutes but it's different. It feels like I'm floating away from my body and everything gets cloudy, but it's a good feeling. It makes me feel like I can escape my problems while the first type of episode I described gives me panic attacks. I haven't exactly felt real for 3 months but these episodes are on a new level. They intensify the dreamlike feelings to a point where it's almost impossible to tell the difference. I haven't found any information on why one of these episodes feels like a nightmare while the other one feels so good. Is there actually different types of episodes in the way I described or is it about the way I feel when it happens? |

Hi scaredycat, welcome to PC! I really couldn't tell you, but I experience moments like that depending on the trigger or moment it happens. When it hits me fast and hard and at the worst possible time like when I'm upside down and busy, my anxiety starts to peak towards panic. Even when I feel overstimulated, it's more than what my senses could handle which gets me nervy, also. But there are times that I feel like I entered a cuddly bubble and not have any negative reactions that I feel fine. These I don't mind because the others leave me frazzled.

I have the brief moments that have you feeling good as well. I'm usually depressed or irritated so when it happens to me it's new and exciting. I welcome it. I hope that isn't bad. I hope it doesn't turn into a horrible experience like you had to go through. I'm sorry to hear. I hope you are feeling better now.

No, I'm not even sure what caused my depersonalization in the first place but it could be because of untreated OCD or something.

I just had this exact same thing happen beginning about one month ago and it's horrible to say the least. I'm feeling so detached and unreal and have a secondary terror on top of it all which just makes it even more horrible. I get it and I'm just back here after a long hiatus because I'm so damn scared lately due to these symptoms.

I kind of get that. Its not so much at the time, but more when I recollect something, my memory will be from outside my body watching myself. But at the time I don't see things that way. In fact, most commonly I get the sensation of being trapped in the body - looking out through eyes that aren't mine. Someone else is doing the talking and Im just - kind of - just looking I guess.
