Maybe you can ground yourself. I use ice or really cold water in my face. The holidays are a stressful time. For now I am pretending that it's just another week. I don't have one thing in my home that even resembles Christmas. This year I just want it to pass quietly. Feel better

Yeah,, grounding techniques.... know how to do a body scan? Find something pleasant to do, sensory kinda thing I mean. We have been using playdoh a lot. Stretch your body. Be kind to your body. Breathe. Our t tells us to calm our nervous system... like all that trauma gets stuck in your body and your whole nervous system feels like its on fire. finding ways to calm our body has been helping heaps. Butterfly tapping? That works well. But you gotta practice it.

I seem to be experiencing a lot of Depersonalization as well...
I just dont understand, why am I here? Am I really here? or is this all just a strange Dream... Who am I? Everything is strange... |

has anyone used yoga to help with these things? my therapist suggested trying some yoga

When I used to feel the way you are my therapist would tell me to "walk it off".Walking gets the entire body moving and is very grounding.

<3 walking, I told me therapist that it helps me as well; I usually walk around the yard while smoking a cig and it helps center me a bit

My T says rocking is good too. Like while you have a cig you could change it up a bit and stand with your feet apart and shift your balance back and forth from one foot to the other. Or rock on a yoga ball.

Ooh, and my t said it can help to not get caught up in the whats and hows and whys of it. because that doesn't change it. She says to notice it, name it and act - do things that will shift it.
So like if you notice you feel symptoms of depersonalization then acknowledge it and then go straight to doing grounding things that will help it. that way you can start to shift it instead of getting stuck in it deeper and deeper. |

i've naturally rocked and such since forever....
shifting from foot to foot while standing, pacing, walking about... i guess its just a normal adjustment to being overwhelmed... i've been overwhelmed for a long time now ![]() ![]() |

it IS a normal adjustment to being overwhelmed - that's why we do it! With rocking to ground you have to do it very mindfully.... like focus on breathing in time to the rocking, focus on feeling your body with it. You know, not like dissociative rocking when you're just doing it and your not really even in your mind. :P

I'm trying to be more aware of what I'm doing...
such as things to soothe, comfort, and grounding.. but its hard.. alot of times i can't help myself, i try hard but its really hard my therapist said that its about bringing a 10 down to a 9 rather than curing it all in one go because its more realistic... so i try to notice things, i try hard to know what helps.... i started wearing a necklace, i can play with it and it makes me feel better a little... i can take a deep breathe and it makes me feel better a little... i can step away and walk away and its not wrong, its not a bad thing and i wont get in trouble and it makes me feel better, even though i feel like i will get in trouble ... i wont ... i think... im 27 years old now, just turned 27 ... i feel like im so old, but im not that old... i dont understand it, its not fair 27 is so old... i see the world, but i see the world through lens, i dont see the world the way normal person does i think... how can i see things 20 million different ways at once? to look through multiple eyes, it makes me cry inside... im so sad |

![]() Im pretty ashamed of myself :/ I wish I did feel my age though... I've just been trying not to write too depressing posts lately because I've seen some of the things that I have wrote in the past.... shame shame :/ |

I can relate to so much of this. I am 27 too (June 28th). Things will be good.
