Totally, like. We have a Nielson box. The guys got drunk and told the tech we were like DID multiple...and we are suppose to hang at Aa meetings.

I hate coming out to people because we are like so gross looking...but now like it's out there.

Feeling really disgusted like. Ready to puke

Pissed, too.

Scared also.

Just want to die.

Upset, totally.

So embarrassing to be like this. I just want to implode.

luce...its how tv shows get their ratings. random names are selected on a computer database, then the selected families / homes are sent a black box that has to be attached to their Tv. this black box is a computerized box that keeps track of every tv show, channel and for how long that show, channel is watched. the results are tallied by a computer that this black box sends its information to.

if a tv show doesnt get enough ratings it get cancelled (taken off the air) if the tv show meets the rating system its approved for another year.

think of it like every time you turn on your tv someone else in your state knows exactly what you are watching and when and for how long.

another way to think about it is imagine someone attaching spyware to your computer and keeping track of what you are doing on your computer. its like that.

random families and people are selected to be representatives of what people like to watch on tv.

its really cool to be selected but its also a huge responsibility. when you are selected what you watch is basically saying its what people in your neighbor hood is watching. one box per community kind of thing.

remember when we were posting about the series US of Tara and it only has a few seasons. basically the people who had the black box attached to their tv watched it for a while then not so much so the ratings at first was really high then went down which caused the show to get cancelled.

now its alwayschangings turn to have a black box hooked up to their tv, that keeps track of everything they watch and for how long they watch that one tv show. then the results get tallied and then either the shows get cancelled or get approved for another season depending upon how many people with the black boxes watch that show.

when I was contacted I refused i did not want to be in the position of deciding for all of america what tv shows get cancelled or approved based on what shows I watched and didnt watch and whether I watched this show for only 5 minutes or that one all the way through. i did not want what I watch to be a representative of what everyone in my own neighborhood was watching.

always changing you can refuse to do this. you just call the technician and have them come out and remove the box (set meter) and send it back to the neilsen company. There should be contact info on the box on how to return the box and not be the one to be counted. it isnt a situation where you dont have a choice. if it scares and upsets you just send it back, they will select another family in your community to do the box.
Thanks for this!

Just really embarrassed. I hate it when they let our secret out because now people are gonna wanna watch to see....like being a bug on a pin. It feels so icky.

I don't care about the box, totally even forget about it. Not even suppose to tell anybody.

Just coming out to the tech who says he is narcoleptic when we was talking about mental illness. Gonna have to move soon if this keeps up.

Hello everyone. What networks and advertisers actually use to decide the fate of tv shows are commercial ratings, if you skip them during the show, your new favorite series still could get cancelled.

I hope you feel better soon, AC. You're still the same citizen as yesterday, it's probably okay to assume this wasn't the first time things like that happened, Nielson guys pays you, I've heard they are extra nice, this post sounds like a part of life hiccups, not an emergency to get up and go. Being a Nielsen household is something special, seriously, they rely on your participation, and the country men in your country still watch tv shows, meaning they wouldn't do anything to mess up your life nor ruin the reputation as a monopoly in the industry.

I've heard of Nielsen Ratings in conjunction with TV shows..but I never knew it had anything to do with surveys or particular people. I thought it was just a ping back kinda thing where the networks were able to estimate how many TV were tuned to their channel...I have always been skeptical of the legitimacy of these rating bc of CBS' claims to always have the #1 everything every year! ...I get Big Bang Theory...but NCIS??...EVERY SINGLE INSTALMENT THERE OF?? really who watches that? In realtime? Maybe on hull or Netflix or rerunathons..but IRT?...I don't know about that! I don't watch anything on CBS in real time except for NFL games.
Sorry got off track ranting bout the obvious data manipulation being perpetrated by Network TV....

I guess I'm still a bit confused tho AC2??
Who did your drunken parts expose you to? Your job? Co workers? Network TV? Cable company?...can someone please explain cuz, per usual we're completely Lost.

it is for both viewing tv shows and commercials, if you type in the words Nielson box you will be able to access their official website that explains the box monitors and measures but tv show viewing habits and the viewing habits of the commercials. the Nielson company uses the term consumer purchasing because now days even tv shows can and are purchased in some locations via cable, and other tv services.

if you type in the phrase how do networks know ratings and what to cancel you will find loads of information that say they use the Neilson box information on what shows get what number of ratings. you can also contact individual networks and they will also tell you how the Neilson box figures in with their cancelling or saving shows for another season.
Thanks for this!

No no no.....it's not that....the guys exposed our condition to a service tech that work for the box thing. Now we are suppose to go to AA meetings with him which is not a bad thing, but it's like our cover has been blown.

I just feel so out there and weird. Our cocoon has been exposed which leaves us open to scrutiny and ridicule. I'm very pukey disgusted now.

AC, probably the tech just thinks that your diagnosis is interesting. I have found that despite my shame at being DID, the people I have told have been just curious not grossed out.

What if you try a meeting and see how it goes? You can always tell the guy that you don't want to go anymore.

Yes we have too. We are drinking waaay to much every night, like a case of beer.

The AA program is about absolute honesty, acceptance, and the 12 basic principles (steps) to live by. We need to have something to do other then sitting ar home drinking by ourselves. To be honest...I have to be honest about and to myself. Maybe this is why we can't be open. Don't know.

We have no friends and this is an opportunity to meet people. Of course don't date anyone in the program...they are just as sick as I am, but not as much....ask my really soon to be ex-wife.

Me personally, I think that I can touch on parts of dissociation without saying it. I always hate talking about it because you have to explain what it is because people just don't know which is tiresome and sounds far fetch crazy to others.

I usually dissociate in group meetings and ramble on as every Other throws in their tidbit which causes us anxiety when everyone is staring at you and to realize that you have no idea what was just said, lol. We get to damn switchy.

We do fear being judged by our actions and words because they are so unique and at times eccentric or better yet...strange. It makes it really hard to blend into the background which leaves the only choice of saying nothing which in itself unhelpful. But if everyone knew about my Others and quirks....maybe we will be more accepted for once in our lifetime. A grand experiment to see if it works.

New Years Day sounds like a good time to dry up.

Thanks for that incite kecanoe...
Its just judge fear thing.
Thanks for this!

And oh....drinking makes the memory loss worse. A blackout is really a blackout. Sometimes I can't remember a whole evening with hardly drinking. What am I saying...I can't remember a whole evening even without drinking in a timeloss kind of way.
