My thinks I have DID...

Except i don't know what DID is or that if I reallly qualify?

I have points of time where I forget who I am or what I have been doing...I have been diagnosed with dissociation before.

I also have been sexually abused in my late teens. I also have been verbally, emotionally, physically, and mentally abused by my mother most of my life. I have had encounters with men that have sexually assaulted me in my early 20s.

now in my late 20s I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder with schizotypal and Major Depression.

But my friend seems to think I have DID when I self harm or go into a state when I am not really the same person as if I was not self harming or crying fowl for emotional distress for that I hear voices and and have said "Laura is not here right now" on occasions. But the doctors have never figured out why I am hearing voices or do the things that I do.

I have also had psychotic epsoides when I swear someone else just takes over

so I wondered if you kindly help me out

Im sorry we cant tell you what is going on with you, whether you have DID or not....

what I can tell you is that here in america DID is...

having two or more special kinds of alters that take control many times, they have their own way of being, thinking and behaving. some places call these kind of alters categorical, the diagnostic criteria uses the term ...distinct.

having a special kind of memory problem that goes beyond the normal kinds of forgetfulness.

the problem cant be because of things like fantasy play, invisible friends, drugs, alcohol or other mental/physical health problems.

my suggestion...go according to what ever your own treatment providers say your diagnosis is...

that said with me one of the things that happens when I would self injure was similar to dissociation /switching alters...but in me it wsasnt..

when a person self injures the body releases a chemical called .. endorphines.. these endorphines chemical has the same symptoms as dissociation...makes a person feel distant, foggy headed and disconnected. some people have been known to "name" that feeling because it feels so different than how they normally are...my feelings / emotional state of mind caused by this release of endorphin's was called ...smokey...which was vastly different then having DID and alters because of DID.

there are many different medical and mental symptoms/problems that share the same symptoms that DID has..

suggestion...talk with your treatment providers they will explain to you whether this is an alter in you and why they have diagnosed you the way they did.

greentires4me, when you have situations where you forget who you are and the psychotic episodes where you not yourself, someone else plus the history you described it all strongly suggests DID. I can not diagnose DID, I'M not a pdoc.

In the DID forum there stickies for you to look through and get information so you can ask questions to your primary doctor and/or pdoc regarding your diagnosis.

One information thread is called Telling Your Primary Doctor, read through that and the following two threads underneath the first thread. This a suggestion, so you understand DID and determine if any of the info is useful for you.

Stick in there with your p'docs. Maybe try and get a second opinion? I had a few different diagnoses before what I have now.

Agree with the other two. Hang in there. I have an alter and suspect DID but don't have an official diagnosis. Hang in there. Here I've learned take it slow!!!!! Don't try to figure it out all at once or it will make you crazy. And that is true. I tried it that way. It upped my anxiety levels. I reccomend writting down questions you have. Maybe even journaling.

update: I am now with a new pdoc and things are going way better except for a drastic med change which is rather sucky. I have schizophrenia, Psychosis, SAD and social anxiety. for once in my life I am getting to the bottom of it. I have Hallucinated in 6 months and I am sober from alcohol for 17 months. But my last pdoc pumped me so full of awful drugs my now pdoc said that I probably had drug induced psychosis for 2 years it was just horrid. She basically said she didn't know what she was doing when she looked at all the last 4 years of drugs I was on. its nice to have a second opinion.

thanks for the update and glad to know you can now rest easy knowing you do not have DID and now know what your actual diagnosis's are, congrats on your sobriety, keep up the great work you are doing with your new pdoc, sounds like they have you on the right track now.
Thanks for this!
