I wanted to share that I heard a really excellent analogy yesterday, and I wanted to see if anyone else related to it. The person, who has DID, said it was like driving a car:
Sometimes you're in the driver's seat, the passenger seat, the back seat, or the trunk. (Parts can be in these positions too.) So, like, if you're in the passenger seat, you are really aware of everything going on/being said, but aren't driving. If you're in the back, maybe a bit less aware, because you can't fully see, but still aware. In the trunk? total blackout. For me, when I am not driving, I am almost always in the passenger seat or, less frequently, the backseat. And, when I am driving, I typically have a couple front-seat passengers, some of whom like to unexpectedly grab the wheel, and maybe someone in the backseat and a couple in the boot. Can anyone else relate to this analogy? |

Yes, I can relate to it.
Sometimes though I get kicked out of the car. |

Yes I’ve heard this analogy before & I can really relate to it in many ways.
I’ve read in a workbook to try & explain or draw your parts & what things look/feel like. I’ve not done this yet, but think it’s a great way to express ourselves

My counselor actually explained parts layering like this. I think that is what he was talking about, but that's how I understood it. I can see it in my mind and it helps me to understand it better. It kind of calms the reaction down after I realize what has happened. The best place to be, if you're not in the driver's seat is definitely the front passenger seat. Worst place it, God help me, the trunk! ETA: Oh WOW! I just replied to your other thread and mentioned your post here in it. I didn't realize it was you who posted it. It is a awesome analogy!
