I don't know what to do. For about 3 weeks I've been dissociating everyday and for the last 5 days I've been having multiple eppisodes a day. I'm not sure if I should go into inpacient hospitalization or a residential or just ride it out and wait to see my therapist? Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello Titati: My personal opinion would be that this is really something you need to be discussing with the mental health professionals in your life. They are the professionals & they know you. We here on PC, for the most part, are not professionals & we do not know you at all... at least not yet.

Since this is your first post, here on PC, welcome to PsychCentral! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit. May I suggest you introduce yourself to the general membership over on our New Members Introductions forum? Here's a link:

PsychCentral is a great place to find information & support for mental health concerns. The more you post, & reply to other members' posts, the more a part of the community you will become. So please keep posting!

I'd do what feels right for you.

that is to say

if you feel you need support from a hospital, go to a hospital.

if you feel you can wait to see your therapist, wait to see them.

good luck

If you aren’t a danger to society and yourself....hospitals are out. If you can’t wait for a therapist....residential can fast track you....so I pick the last two which ever comes first.

What are your symptons? R u going through? Is your episodes medical, pharm, or mental?

Hope you doing better

Welcome to PC. Sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time.

How long is it before you see your T? Can you contact them and tell them that you are unwell and get some suggestions from them. I don't know if you would be better off in hospital. Have you been in hospital before when you have been like this and if you were in hospital was it beneficial or not? Some hospitals can help others can be horribly triggering in themselves.

Can you identify why you are being triggered more? Is there anyway that you can make it so there is less pressure on you. Have you learned any grounding techniques to make you safer?

Please contact a professional soon.

Around here, hospitalization is for people who are in danger of suicide or of harming others. Although I have never heard of anyone actually being hospitalized because they are a danger to others. Dissociating would not be enough to convince my health insurance to pay up. And honestly, unless you can find a place that specifically treats only trauma issues, being in the hospital may just make things worse.

I have heard good things about residential treatment; that would be my first choice. I used to dissociate a lot more than 5 times a day. After years of therapy, it's gotten a lot better.

Have you talked to your T about going residential?
