I've done EMDR many times & have had good and bad expereiences. Part of the protocol now though is to screen for level of dissociation prior to starting treatment as EMDR can make dissociation worse. I've mainly been treated with EMDR to process past traumas, but sometimes we use it as a means for me to go inside and talk to my different ego states. I don't have DID, although I do dissociate quite a bit - it's more like I have parts of my personality that are stuck at different ages and have different memories and personalities.

I've personally found EMDR to be very helpful.

I have not had a good experience with it. I actually hated it. At some point she totally lost me - like literally, i went away, far inside and she was upset that she could not reach me. It scared her a lot. it scared me too because i felt a great deal of pain inside and couldn't get out of it.

I used EMDR with my DID and while it was upsetting at times (for me) I was glad to do the work - no matter how hard it got, for in the long run it meant I was healing the parts of me that needed to merge so we could become one again...... I would recommended it.

>>> I never felt so calm as I did with EMDR.

Yes I have tried EMDR. There are times that it doesn't work and there are times that it does. I believe in the long run it is the best treatment for me. The eye movement really was bothering me with following my T's fingers back and forth, even a light bar that she had bothered me. I now use these paddles that I put in my hands. One in each. They buzz back and forth. They work great for me. There are times even that I will hold them while we talk. Not the "normal" way of doing it, but it helps.

I have used the ones you place under your upper leg as you sit and talk with your T about your past & present issues....... and some times just like MAGIC the issue is No More.

Never done the follow the finger thing........ but I have done the move your eyes back & forth while your eyes are closed, the tap the tip of toes on ground and the squeeze your fist things - the fist ones works great to help relief anxiety while you find your self out in public with a panic attack taking place (always starting with the left side of the body).

I did try it... and for me... was very bad... just speaking for myself... the T totally lost me in experiences.. and couldn't get me out... the residual effect was just unbelieveablely bad for me... so perhaps it just depends on the individual..
