how do u know if u have one... u cant hear them, so how do u know if they're there?

(i know its a stupid question)

and...

what would be the mutes purpose/function in the system? are they limited to certain functions because they cant talk?

does anyone here have mute alters... if so how do u communicate?

hi....

it isn't a "stupid" question.... really... DID is just so complex... isn't it...

yes... I have a "mute" alter.... I guess I don't "think" in terms of "function" for my alters.... because they are well defined.. I guess..

so... my mute alter "exists" to put it in terms of "function"... because of "speechless terror"..... she felt so much terror... that she cannot talk... and that has always been...

I know she exists... because when she has control... my body temperature... drops.. dramatically.... my body becomes freezing cold... and "I" can't talk... and such terrible awlful fear takes over me... and sometimes "I" try to "hide".....

I would guess... that she has the memories.. of getting lost in freezing winter.. wandering the rural roads.... on the way home from school.. at 5... that happened alot...

and she cannot "verbalize".... that terror... it is simply too much to put in words...

so... contacting her... is something that I have been working with my T on.... one of my younger alters.. 12.... is "visualizing taking her hand and holding it.... and putting a blanket over her.. and getting and keeping her warm".... and that connection is starting to be built...

From there... I am not sure... where... we go...

As she is "present" in the sessions... other alters are also present... and "feeling".... the terror... helping to absorb it... the hope here... is for the older alters to "pitch in"... and start the process of letting her know... that she is cared for.. loved.. and that she will never be lost.. freezing... abused... nor hungry again... and... since she doesn't know "warmth"... they will project their feelings of feeling warm to her.. so that she will "learn" that feeling... and they will share the "feeling" of being full.. and safe... so she will learn from them... how that feels....

Then one of the alters.. probably the 12 year old.. will "teach" her to speak.... that is a very very long way down the line...

Don't know how other DIDer's "do it".... but that is our process... and has worked for us in the past...

hope this helps.. a bit...

I apparently have a part that has no mouth. But I do not know how T found out nor do I know anything about them. I think she/he draws but I don't know for sure. Maybe your T would be able to help answer that for you? I don't have that kind of awareness so I have to rely on T for knowledge.

i also have a part "with no body, only eyes" who draws. t tried to get part to speak but she floated further and further away until t went and grabbed something to distract us with to bring us back.
