Can anyone with alters tell me, if you're on meds, are the alters affected differently? Are there some that do not respond to the meds? Or respond in ways not wanted?
thanks, Kiya

Kiya, I don't think they are affected by my "mental health" meds, but they are affected by my pain meds in the way that they are very very quiet and sleepy. I don't quite know why that is.

yes, my alters sometimes react differently to my meds but I don't think it's really that big of a deal.

Yes...they are often affected by meds differently than expected/wanted. Once all the older ones were sedated and all the younger ones were wired, by the same med...this was a big problem!

One thing that we do as a system is only those that need a specific med come forward when it is taken, and then hang out for a while before retreating. This only works if everyone is working well together, but it is attainable.

? about alters.... Kiya >>>>sera says it most clearly for me >>> I got off meds and learned mines sleep wake habits ,, >> With caffiene and etoh >>. [ beer ]

I old and had to learn >> zoloft kept all in check ,, and at same time did not allow any expression.

I like the sleep from coffee... Major other likes the wire and sleep from beer ,,, None like sedation unless to extremes. High or low . ? about alters....

i really feel for my MD having to work with me. we talked on the phone about the meds today and at first i just went silent - she had to ask if i was still there (as is often the case). I go into my mute self and can't even think of things i need or want to say. she told me to stop the lexapro for a week and start something else. it takes an hour or 2 to process info and for me to call her back so she could be aware of the positive things that have happened. She calls me back and says "you're so cute".... ? about alters.... endearing as it is, it is frustrating, too - it's not cute that i can't always think straight, or talk when i need to, or fully comprehend what is going on... =(

I am so glad your doc is so caring and responsive. It sounds like the two of you are working on a resolution and hopefully it will be soon. Don't get discouraged as sometimes it takes to try a few before you find the right one.

there you are =) i wanted to pm, but the net is runing SOOO slowly i gave up.
Yeah - we've decided on 5mg lexapro and 50mg 5HTP for now. each daily. sadly, i think i took 75 5htp by accident today. grrrrrrrr.
what else was i gonna tell you??? hmmmmm oh i got work =) mmmm seems like there was something else more important. alas, i can't remember it. maybe that i haven't heard from t at all =( she said she'd email and call, but not a word =( said it was to make sure i knew we were connected.... now i'm starting to forget what that is like. this was the first weekend i didn't call her in ages.... and i won't see her tomorrow... and she still won't be back until the day right before my appnt. 11 days out of town.... starting to feel sad about it.

I really haven't heard much from the alters now that i'm on meds... i did have on switch today in school where i thougth i was in 4th grade again and was about to get beat up... the boy slammed down his notebook in front of me and i switched. i was really glad for the meds, or i don't know how i would have reacted... more to the point recovered quickly... one cannot run from the room when subbing. ok... back at it... kiya

You got work! Awesome. I am sorry about the dissociating in class. That can make it hard. I am glad the meds helped. Now that is a good thing.

I hope this is the "mix" for you. Please try and be patient as sometimes it takes a few tries. I know it is hard.

Hopefully your t will contact you soon. It is so hard to stay connected when you know it is going to be so long between sessions. Can you just sit and visualize her and what she may say? Maybe that will help some?

Hoping the meds help more and more each day.

BB

You know, i usually do have "conversations with t in my head" - but with the lexapro, my mind is oddly blank. i find only music in there (which was typical) and nothing else... sometimes i catch myself staring straight ahead, not even blinking... a lot of my actions have become very robotic. usually i listen to myself think - now.... blank. i can barely remember what t sounds like. or even looks like.
i do wonder if by any chance t might still call me tonight. i though about sitting with the crystal (transitional object) she sent me home with... but it sort of burns my palm =( i want to cleanse it, but i don't want to hurt or affect t's crystal. whew i'm spacey... i may go lie down for a bit and watch the wind storm. (i've no work today - probably tomorrow).
