Hi I'm new to this forum but thought I'd share my situation. Have recently sought help with my eating disorder after almost a year suffering from anorexia and am completley ready to recover now. Was wondering if anyone else is in recovery and struggling with gaining the weight back and gettin back 2 normal? Have just started seeing a therapist but findin it difficult coming to rterms with putting the weight back on, like feelings and things seem overwhelming . Is anyone else going through anything similar?

Congratulations on knowing what the right thing to do is!

I was in the same situation, and I went about everything the wrong way. Instead of gaining my weight back the right way I just drank...a lot...and ate...a lot without ever gaining respect for the nourishment it provided me with.

It can be overwhelming at first, but don't be discouraged! You'll look back one day and see all the small steps that you've made and see one HUGE accomplishment. We're here to help.

ALSO, don't forget to congratulate yourself when you feel you've done something right. I have found many times I feel like I've done something really terrific in recovery but only wait until somebody else give me kudos. When it doesn't happen it makes me feel like perhaps I didn't do well enough, or it wasn't as good as I thought it was. In all reality, the only person that knows how to give you compliments or rewards as to how hard you've tried and how well you've done is yourself.

:-)
Thanks for this!

Just wanted to say congratulations on your start on the road ahead! It does take time, just be gentle with yourself, and if you slip, don't beat yourself up about it, just start the day anew. (I am still working on this, so I know it is easier written than done,
lol )

Welcome to PC...

Hi, I understand exactly how you feel. I have struggled with anorexia on and off over the years with periods of very good recovery in between. I don't want to sound like a hypocrite for telling you this (because here I am stuck myself) but here are a few things I have learned along the way.....in the initial stages of recovery, you have to force yourself to eat. No one can do this for you. You will hate every minute of it and feel like you are losing your "identity" ....it feels like all that control you have "worked so hard" to achieve is slipping away....you simply have to accept that you are fighting against this mindset and begin to eat. Although it may not feel like it right away, the more you eat, the more you will begin to get your hunger and desire for food back. I guess what I am saying is that initially, you just have to plow through it. It does get easier but it really takes time to move away from that mindset.

I have heard (and from my own experiences I'd say it is spot on) that how long you have been sick, it will take twice that long to feel recovered. Hope that helps!
Thanks for this!
