How does a person who just eats and eats and eats, finally come to terms that food is just food and not everything else life is supposed to be? How did you beat this?

hi. i find that i am fighting the desire to eat more all the time. first, i ask myself if i am really hungry. i ask myself when was the last time i ate and, if sufficient time has not passed to warrant another meal, then i don't eat anything. sometimes, i ask myself, do you want to eat this or do you want to lose or maintain your weight. if i decide that i'd rather lose weight then i don't eat. lately, i will ask myself what else can i do that will satisfy my need to fill myself with something. alternatives are reading, listening to music (dancing to the music really gets my mind off food) or going out for a walk. i love to walk. i've also learned to love fresh brewed unsweetened iced tea. my favorite beverage has great flavor and no calories. i drink lots of it and don't feel deprived. another remedy to is plan meals that require preparation that you really look forward to. it changes my mindset in that i see meals as an earned reward rather than instant gratification.

I hope that someday I'll be able to follow a reasonable eating plan. It would make life so much easier, and I'd be so much happier. I feel like I'm constandly torn. I want to do the right thing but something always gets in the way. Maybe this is the wrong time. Maybe I should just try again after Thanksgiving.

honestly, i feel as if the more you "think" about losing weight the harder it is! I always say everything in moderation, when you restrict yourself you never get there. try to stay active and eat everything you want but in moderation, you will get there just believe in yourself!

I have recently lost 84 pounds. I think the key thing has been to eat a lot healthier. I have never felt deprived in my 18 months of "dieting". In fact, it never felt like a diet. I eat lots of fruit and vegetables. I cook food from scratch most of the time. My previous food was mostly processed and I ate lots of ready meals. The first step is to make healthier choices. After a while, you start to make healthy choices automatically. I am eating very much the same diet even though I have reached my target. It helps to have had a diet that I enjoyed. Good luck !!

84 pounds, that`s awesome. I agree that healthy food is key. Part of my problem is eating out too much or looking for something quick when at home. It takes time to prepare healthy meals and I never seem to find enough hours in a day to do it all, but that about to change. It as to. Thanks for the help.

Hi Luv2yak,

I hope my post was helpful. I sometimes forget that I have a lot more time than most people. Don't forget that you can cook vegetables and keep them in the fridge until you need them. You can reheat them in the microwave. I make a lot of meals such as chilli, bolognese and soup, and freeze several portions. It takes 15-20 minutes to put a good meal on the table. Take Care !
