I've been working real hard at not being a symptomatic bulimic and have only slipped a few times since May (a record for me!). My biggest problem is that when I eat a "normal sized" meal, I get real full real fast and then I feel sick to my stomach for hours, so much so that I desperately want to purge to make myself feel better.

Do ya think it's my stomach relearning how to process food I'm now keeping in, or do ya think it's my brain tricking me into giving in by making me *think* I've got to purge.

Any thing you can recommend to make this go away? Or at least tell me that it does go away.

All responses gratefully received,
Bubba

You might want to try not having any liquids with your meals. It will force you to chew really well as well as not make you as full.

Also you might have some food sensitivities. Start keeping track of the severity of the discomfort correlated to what you've eaten or the combination thereof. High fructose corn syrup and cream are two of mine. A lot of fat can also make you sick. I also have symptoms like that if I wait too long to eat at which point I have to use Gas-X. If you are waiting until you are famished to eat you might want to eat when you are not quite a ravenous.

Avoice - glad 2 hear it gets easier. What do you mean by baby steps? I'm pretty all or nothing ... shocking, i know.

BTW - I'm not giving in to the desire to purge but it is very physically uncomfortable and a bit discouraging. (If this is recovery, then all I can say is "eh".)

I KNOW what you're talking about. I had the same thing happen to me after I stopped purging. It DOES go away. I promise. I thought it would last forever but it didn't. It is very discouraging. I mean, why should you get sick when you're trying to be healthy?

Good job beating your ED! It does get better. It really will.

Good job with your ed, that's really something to look up to. I would think it would get better with time, but I am not talking from experience. I hope you continue.

I don't think anything is ever just one or the other. I would make sure I'm eating slowly and not eating too "long" (it takes 20 minutes for the stomach to register what it has eaten so if you are getting "full" or feeling like vomiting before that, I'd "blame" it on the mental aspect) and would eat the healthiest things I most enjoy for awhile, that make me feel the least sick (i.e., everyone feels sick when they eat too much sugar/candy).
