Ummm welll. they are called Weight loss and since you are not *over* weight probably not. centers like that work with people that are obese not those who may have an eating disorder that keeps them under weight, or those that are under weight.

you might try contacting your treatment providers. they could refer you to a treatment center for your eating disorder that can work with you on getting your weight on track and where it should be for your age and height.

Hey Dancinggirl...

I know your perception of yourself is that you are overweight and you perceive fat dripping off of you. I know that these perceptions are very painful and extremely difficult for you to cope with.

As someone who has been obese for 3/4 of my life time, and has had 2 weight loss surgeries and gone through the hoops to get those surgeries, I can tell you straight up that NO SURGEON worthy of a medical license would perform a surgical procedure for weight loss on someone who is underweight and struggling with an eating disorder. What you need help with is not something that can be fixed with surgery, it is something that must be treated psychologically and medically from the standpoint of making sure you are maintaining a level of health and maintaining a level of nutrition that allows you to be and stay healthy.

Weight loss surgery would not fix anything for you. You could wither away and you would still look in your mirror and see someone who overweight. You are not over-nourished, you are under-nourished (mal-nourished).

I know this isn't what you want to hear....but honestly, no Surgeon will preform this surgery on you. You're not medically healthy enough for it, and the fact that you think you actually "need" this surgery tells me that you wouldn't pass the psych eval to get approved.

My suggestion is to talk with your T about how you are feeling and about wanting the surgery. You may have done this already, but keep reaching out to them. And keep reaching out to us too, we're here for you.

CDG,

Like everyone else has said - no, they wouldn't.

Please talk to your T and treatment team about this, you need the support.

I'm sure you knew the answer before you asked.....I'm sorry you are feeling this way about yourself after all the work you have been doing with your anorexia issues. Your T, your nutritionist, & your whole team are the ones that you should ask this question from & if you don't think you should ask them......what different answer do you think you would be given here?

You definitely need the support of your team if you are really feeling this way.

The surgery would be pointless as well as dangerous and could cause the surgeon to lose his license considering the danger involved on something that is not needed. I know it feels needed to you, but in reality if something like this were to happen, it could likely kill you. I'd rather be fat and walking than a twig in a coffin. So sorry if this triggers or sounds harsh, I do not mean it that way in the slightest. I have struggled with EDs my entire life going from being under weight to over weight... When it comes down to it, this lifestyle can and will kill you. It tried to kill me and I didn't even have the surgery. That's when I realized that our appearance is not worth my life.

I'm now very happily in the middle at the doctor approved weight. It's a long road but this kind of behavior is unsafe to act out on and seek out. I was on pro anna sites all day every day, until I had a near death experience because of this. Some things our image is just not more important than, and that includes our health. Please seek medical help for your eating disorder, not what you think will make you happy because believe me, even if you got it you wouldn't be happy. I'm 5'9 and even at my smallest weight I hated my appearance. I thought I was a whale. But now where I am at, I'm happy again. It's about changing your self image, not your actual image.

They can't do it because it's ethically completely wrong. The surgery is for people who are medically overweight, not those who are underweight but don't feel it. They would effectively be helping/causing you to die if they did it. Their surgery isn't based on what you see in the mirror, it's based on people who will have serious medical problems because they are considerably overweight and need help to loose it.

Ditto what anna said. It probably could and would kill you guys to have that surgery. I like the thing about changing your self-image, not your actual image. Talk to your team, or your family, or whoever helps you with this kind of thing. If you keep doing these self-destructive behaviors, you're going to end up dying. Not trying to cause a trigger or anything, I'm anorexic/bulimic too, I feel you guys. But it's just not worth it.

There is no Dr in the world that would risk their license doing a weight loss surgery on someone with anorexia who's weight is so far below the screening level. You can continue wasting your time & energy on this....but you would be much better off if you would put your energy into your recovery rather than wasting it on this.

There is one thing restricting your own eating.....but trying to drag a Dr into your issues is a whole other thing. Those Dr's wouldn't even waste their time with you.....they usually have people who do the screening for them at the higher level & only deal with those patients who pass the screening.

I'm sure you have already read this information but if not.....read it......if you have...read it again:
