I hate food.. I eat when I have to but thats about once a day. My doctor is concerned about my weight and I am confused. If you don't eat just because you don't like food and not because you think you're fat does that mean you have an eating disorder? Please help I'm so confused

Why do you hate "Food"? Hate is a strong word.. After all you weren't born that way. There's something going on with your thinking take the quiz and see what happens. ED kills

i dislike the food too, but because of that i have a disorder with my insulin now, its kind of: you dont eat, then the body stores everything you ate and then you get fat and fat because when you eat the body reacts to save himself. I actually have to drink a medication and follow a diet in which i have to eat 6 times during the day. The best idea is going to the doctor and see what happens... good luck with that!
Thanks for this!

You can and it sounds like you may have an eating disorder because of your lack of food. Your hatred for food makes me think it could be a psychological over physical issue with food, you have some reasons perhaps you can't remember now, that has caused you to hate food. You don't have to restrict for the purpose of loosing weight to be considered with an eating disorder, in fact 9 times out of 10 there is a underlying emotional problem that causes the eating disorder.

Food is something we NEED to survive, restricting (not to be confused with spiritual or healing fasting) is an eating disorder when it happens over a period of time and you don't stop it. Some people use it to gain control in their lives, some people have an obsession with a certain weight they want to accheive, some people were called fat their whole lives and want to be thin even though they already are, the fact is it doesn't really matter why in determining if you have it, what determines the disorder is how you are taking care of yourself.

No appetite that causes unintentional weight loss is anorexia:

"Anorexia" <--- That was one of the admittions i had along with the adult failure to thrive and malnurishment.. but when i saw it on the diangoses on the computer in my room, and pretty much went all spazed out on them, they took that off just to please me... that was a pretty good while back... I associated that word with eating and then running to the bathroom... and thats it.. i dont know why i did though.. most likely a misperception i got from earlier in my mental hospitalizations...

Hi.

You can have disordered eating, without having an eating disorder. The first one just means your eating patterns don't fit the "norm" and the second one is a diagnosable condition. We can't diagnose you here, since nobody is a professional.

What don't you like about food? The hassle of making it, the texture, the time wasted, the varieties of food out there, etc.

Personally, I don't eat a lot some days simply because I forget to eat. My body doesn't always remind me that I'm hungry so sometimes I won't eat for longer than I should. I actually don't hate food, I love to eat. That's my other problem - sometimes I eat too much, or intentionally DON'T eat because I don't want to gain weight, or I hate myself or just because I'm too depressed to eat.

I would say that if you're worried about your eating patterns, to consult a doctor or a therapist and talk about it.

Weirdly enough, I recently read a psych book about different disorders and how they are perceived around the world.
Before anorexia became widely known throughout the world, there was a form of anorexia in Hong Kong, where women because of emotional distress began to strongly dislike food/eating, and had no appetite. They had no concept of "distorted body image" nor did they want to lose weight. They just didn't want to eat. Its still an eating disorder, its just not the DSM definition of anorexia, and therefore not labelled. (Or at least it didn't have a label, I don't know about recently)

I think you were thinking of bulimia. Failure to thrive, eat or take nourishment is anorexia. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/eat...orders/DS00294

It sounds like your anoretic and tempting fate. What makes you hate or fear food? How long has this been an issue? Did something trigger all of it? My fear started by very low self esteem and athletics at the age of four where we were expected to be petite. Gymnastics! I heard enough to instill fear in me and it grew from there because I never quit sports, had poor coaches and no one to work it thru with. I'm now 38 and have crippling side effects. I hope you can find an awnser for what has made you feel this way. Peace
