Does anyone else with BPD and BiPolar II over eat, like binge eat? I overstuff myself not even enjoying the food most times to the point where I can't move sometimes.

I really would like this particular trait to leave me all together and not do this. Any tips, suggestions?

This thread can go in one of three places and felt it best to post in the general other section as to reach wider number of people.

Thanks

I used to do that. Got a better handle on feelings and issues such as loneliness, and it doesn't happen any more.

I have bipolar type 1 and bpd and I do at night and I always have. For the most part I hardly eat at all during the day being so busy with the kids. When the kids go to bed and its quite and I am left alone with my thoughts I eat. All kinds of stuff I know I shouldn't eat. I was very overweight for a long time and had a gastric sleeve for health reasons and have lost almost 100 pounds and I still find myself doing this sometimes. I am just trying to make better choices of what I over eat with, like it really makes a difference.

I could almost second what you said Cherry, but didn't have the gastric sleeve, but I eat late at night when sons gone to sleep, don't eat much all day because when I'm busy I don't feel hungry. I pick the wrong stuff to binge on, but I'm deciding to have celery cut up ahead of time, frozen grapes, anything that takes longer to chew and doesn't raise the blood sugar too quickly. My meds for bp , Seroquel, REALLY affect the reason I binge at night. I've lost 50 pounds, but its going to be hard to keep it off if I keep up with binging at night.
So, tips, have protein that you like available, if you like cold chicken, salmon, and have lots of fibre like beans, peas, all bran, whole grains etc. stuff that fills you up longer. I am starting to like to eat as much oatmeal as I want, and its filling so I don't go looking for more.

I have been doing this a lot. I have bipolar 2, and the symptoms of BPD. Since I went off one of my meds last year (topomax) i just want to eat all the time. Ive never had a problem with my weight really, so im kinda concerned. Chewing gum helps, but u cant chew gum constantly

I used to overeat at night too. My therapist told me "you didn't have enough fun during the day and you are compensating at night with food".

Please take the word 'fun' in its large meaning of: your day did not give you what you expected / needed from it and you take it, or try to take something good thru food.

Can this apply to you?

I was previously diagnosed with Bipolar II as well as BPD. My experience is slightly different because I binge and purge. I do this every day without fail and cannot seem to stop. I am glad that I am not alone and to see that the mental illnesses might be related??

Maybe if you google long-term health consequences of binging and purging you'll be "scared straight"? Like dental damage and malnutrition that causes other damage. Just an idea. Malnutrition can really mess with your mind, nervous system, and other organ systems.
